I know this subject comes up a lot when you can't find variants. I've looked in Michel and there is nothing - of course my German sucks and I can't find anything meaningful in Google translate. On to my dilemma. I have three copies of the 634 Soviet Space Achievements souvenir sheet. One of them is on brighter, whiter, shinier paper as is the gum. The colors don't match my other two and that led me to check perfs and they are different. Both Michel and Scott list the perf as 12 1/2 x 13. My other copy is 14 x 14 1/2. Side by side the height of stamps and selvage do not match, however laid top to bottom the width matches. Just curious if anyone has discovered this anomaly or knows of a source that validates the authenticity. It's not a particularly valuable sheet so it would surprise me that its a fake. But even the perf intersections are a mess, which I think is a giveaway. In my image upload, the suspect is on the left. I appreciate any insight. Thanks!

The line perforated pane at left is almost surely a forgery. This is also a defining characteristic of the 1951 Mao forgeries (combination perf genuine, line perf forgery). That being said, I have not seen this forgery before. But then again, I wasn't looking for it. However, I'm not expecting Michel to list all forgeries unless the item has a high premium (as the case with the Mao stamps).
I am curious whether others have encountered this forgery? I guess I should check my DDR as well...
It's a keeper, either way!

I appreciate any insight. Thanks! Hi dadnator Are you able drill down and have us a close up of one of the stamps please?
I would like a detail of the line perforated stamp, esp the gap between the "Value tablet and DDR" and the space image There lies some text? That may have some hint to it genesis. That does not exist on the Comb perf sheet. Found it !..................FAUX (False) Query solved

Rod has better than eagle eyes!
I guess that makes it a reproduction, rather than a forgery?

Rod has better than eagle eyes! Nay, Sir, but thank you. The pat on the back goes to the "Dadnator" whom served up, on just his / her second post a super, well defined scan...bravo! I had to download and drive up the magnification Tip the hat to the forgers who marked the sheet. Reproduction? I sit on the fence there Kim.

Thank you all for the replies on this. I appreciate all the quick responses and great catch. I was surprised I missed it, but then the eyeballs aren't what they used to be. Yeah, definitely a keeper. I just heard back from the person I bought it from and he advised me to look for the imprint, but he thought it would say Falsch. So he has run into it before. I asked him if he had any additional details about when it might have been made and for what reason. I'll post again if he has additional insights or if I can find more info. Thanks for the compliment Rod. I know my tech-nerd skills would serve me well someday!

This forgery in particular is well known:
When this forgery was created is therefore completely irrelevant, and the question of the reason is superfluous...
