New Online Stamp Club - Learning About Stamps Online (LASO)

I received the following and am providing the information for those who may be interested.
LASO's approved by-laws follow.
1. Meeting participation is open to all.
2. Although organized and administered in the United States, stamp collectors from around the world are welcome.
3. English is the primary language used during all meetings.
4. Meetings are scheduled on a regular basis and made known using email blasts and publicized through a variety of philatelic and public outlets.
5. Meetings take place using the Zoom application with a link provided for participants. All participants must pre-register to attend.
6. Participants must always minimally display first name and last initial in Zoom for identification purposes. [From the Zoom home screen, left click your face icon under the X in the upper right corner, slide your mouse down to the first bar listing your name, then slide left and left click “My Profile”. You may need to log in again. Click the blue “Edit” on the right side, then change “Display Name”.]
7. The Moderator has full control of technical meeting logistics and participation interaction.
8. Participants stay muted until recognized by the Moderator to speak.
9. Meetings typically run for an hour in length.
10. Topics will vary and cover a broad range of collecting areas, including philatelic basics, “how to” tutorials, general and specialized presentations. Where feasible or appropriate, breakout groups will be used.
11. The focus of meetings is not for buying or selling; however, participants may contact one another to foster such exchanges.
Membership
1. Participants may become an official “Club Member” by providing the organizers with their name, email address, town/city, state/province (if applicable), country and collecting interests if desired.
2. Club membership is free of charge.
3. Club Members will be informed of upcoming meetings via email blasts.
4. Club Members may “opt in” to having their contact information released to other club members and/or posted on a web site to foster personal interactions.
5. Club Members are expected to abide by the American Philatelic Society’s Code of Ethics as seen here: stamps.org/Portals/0/downloads/Code-of-Ethics.pdf.

Earlier this year I emailed you about the possibility of creating a virtual stamp club. Since that original communication, about 30 APS contacts have developed a plan to begin club activities. These are the results.
Name: Learning About Stamps Online (LASO for short)
Mission: To provide an online forum for stamp collectors of all ages, skill levels and philatelic interests who have a passion to learn. Together members will share knowledge and resources to better appreciate, enjoy and promote the hobby.
Meeting times: The Third Tuesday each month at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
Dues: There are no dues required to join the club.
LASO's focus is on learning. The club will promote presentations and discussions devoted to supporting stamp collectors of varying levels to improve their skills and knowledge related to stamp collecting. LASO will not sponsor or promote activities related to buying and selling stamps. For a more detailed view of club By-laws, please see the attachment.
Joining LASO
At this point we are able to provide an opportunity for those interested in participating in club activities to sign-up. We would appreciate it if you would forward this information to your members and anyone else that may be interested. Again, there is no fee. This is the link:
Operating Team Volunteers
Also, if you or one of your club members is interested in serving as a volunteer on LASO's initial Operating Team, please write to antonejaboud@gmail.com with that interest. At this point we would like to find up to three additional members. Presently we have four volunteers:
· Tom Fortunato, Rochester Philatelic Association, Rochester, NY
· Diane Goatey, Belleville Stamp Club, Mascoutah, Illinois
· Bob Thompson, Raleigh Stamp Club, Raleigh, North Carolina
· Antone Aboud, Fort Orange Stamp Club, Albany, New York
We hope to begin monthly meetings no later than July, with a possible trial run in June. I will forward additional information as it emerges (e.g., detailed schedule of events; a club Website; Social Media links). And if you have questions, please be in touch.
