Hello Forum-
I just registered as a new member and this is my introduction. I have lurked from time to time, and that usually arises when I google a stamp issue, often related to classic stamps and their cancellations, and on more than one occasion recently I end up on the Stamp Forum, and while I haven't always found the answer, I have been impressed with some of the information available here. For example, recently I was attempting to find the Norwegian town associated with a three-ring numerical cancel from the 1860's, and if I had a good classic Norwegian catalogue in my library, this might not have been an issue. Nevertheless, I worked my way into the Forum and stumbled upon some wonderful and detailed posts by a collector of the 1856-57 King Oscars. Low and behold, I found my town, and unfortunately it was a larger city, but I found the answer I was looking for. This is about the fifth time I had lurked in the last 5 years or so, and I said to myself that this an excellent site and I need to join, because I might honestly be able to assist others from time to time, and I had already received assistance myself.
I live in Chicago, am a full-time attorney and part-time stamp dealer and collector. I collect worldwide classics, primarily cancelled, and I enjoy varieties, multiples, first issues, town cancellations and fancy cancels. USA, Germany, German States, Italian States, Benelux, Scandinavia, France, GB, Portugal, Russia, Brazil and Latin America, etc. If it's a 19th Century stamp with a beautiful cancel, I'm more or less a pigeon. Naturally, I have assembled some excellent reference material over the years and have some acumen in spots. And there you have it.
I told Steven that I have a lot on my plate, and may be spotty in my participation, but I look forward to helping where I can, and learning from all of you.
