Hello. I dabbled with the hobby some years ago but due to circumstances (in particular funds) found it difficult to get into. I am now retired and seen what I think might be an opportunity to get back into collecting.......I am looking at collecting King Charles III UK stamps as they seem to be relatively obtainable on a budget. I am also considering collecting stamps I just like the look of from around the world So now very excited to be here and looking forward to a new journey with a little help from you good people.

Hi tele1962 - welcome to TSF - very friendly and always ready to help - glad to have you on board:-) I think there a few here on a budget - as a suggestion, and if you have access to a few charity shops, you might try and cultivate a friendship with one or two of the ladies - they do occasionally have a few stamps and you might strike lucky. best of luck.

@tele62 I won't hold it against you.
It was classic year for the Telecaster! I bought one at a pawn shop in 1969...$50, Then it was just a used guitar. If only I'd held on to it!

Welcome to the group!
FYI - a “dup” is a duplicate - you have more than you need, an extra stamp that needs a home. I’m in the midst of an energetic attempt to rehome all of my “dups”. 😉
Keep asking questions! We love ‘em here - how else are we gonna show off all this esoteric philatelic stuff in our brains, eh?

I am really appreciative of any help I receive and if I ever get any " dups" I will offer them up to the good members here. have just ordered the King Charles the III definitive set for around I think £10 pounds, most I have spent this time around but you gotta start somewhere. I don't think at this point in time I am allowed into giveaways etc which I fully understand. Maybe soon I will be allowed in. Warmest wishes Barry

Hi Barry - I think TSF rules are that you need to have made a minimum of 50 posts before you can enter freebie draws - quite easy to do if you're a chatty sort of person:-) - but agree it's a good way of increasing your chances of some good gratis stamps.

Oh! I see what you did there! The “Captain Jack” under my avatar is the name of the man on the stamp I use for my forum picture. I found the stamp in a $13 bag of kiloware and it turned out to be worth almost £1,000!

Welcome to the forum tele1962. I can relate to the King Charles III stamps that you are looking into. I think the definitive design created by Martin Jennings for coins lends continuity to the Queen Elizabeth II Machine stamps.

Welcome to the forum. Once you get into the hobby it is always an option to swap stamps with other collectors. A good way to build up a collection is too visit a charity shop or a yard sale.

I see you are in Newcastle , so
1. Have you thought of visiting Corbitts stamp shop and auctions?
2 there is a big stamp event just down to road at York racecourse on 19 -20 July why not take a day trip. You might get ideas that appeal. Several dealers will have countries by the album page or even complete albums
I’ll be there as will Michael

I was the only one of my family not born in the Newcastle area! They emigrated, and I was born in Cape Town. But following Newcastle United is a family tradition and some day I'll make the pilgrimage to St James' Park.
