I was unable to find any website or reference where I can identify Field Post Office number during WWII for the british army. I have this cover, sent from Field Post Office 816 on 27 january 1945. The letter was written in french so there are at last three possibility: - A Belgian serving with the British Army (But most of them were in the first Belgian Infantery Brigade, of the Belgian Liberation Army who used the FPO 665) - A free French soldier attached to a British unit - A French speaking canadian. Unfortunately I don't have the content of the letter. Does anyone know wich british unit was using the Field Post Office 816 at this time?

Thanks a lot. I found effectively this: "The British Liberation Army (BLA) was the official name given to the British Army forces which fought on the Western Front of the Second World War, between the Invasion of Normandy and the end of the war. Almost all BLA units were assigned to the 21st Army Group, which also included forces from other countries. (Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg and Poland).

Nice Work Phil, That explains the vast number of cancelling hammers of the B.L.A at that time.
