Hi To be honest, I am not a stamp person. Father-in-law passed a few years back, and we decided to have a look at his collection. No idea of any potential worth, other than as kindling You can see he started of vigilantly cataloguing his collection in albums, but at a certain point, it kind of descended into chaos. Loads of envelopes filled with single, used stamps from ... well, everywhere. I have started taking photos of all the stamps/pages. (Up to 850 pictures so far, with about 9 full albums to go) I would like to digitally catalogue it all, to make life a bit easier. So looking for help with how I should go about this. advice on good software a person can use. etc etc. Thanks. A

Welcome to the group!
A question - are you cataloging with the intent to sell or for a different reason? In any case, please know that there is a VAST chasm between catalog value and possible cash yield.
To give you a feel for current prices, I am currently selling off my duplicates and a few collections on EBay for a few dollars per full stockpage or about 5 - 10% for used / mint hinged. MNH sells higher and they actually SELL at those prices so that’s a real life indicator for current market value. Ignore minimum value items - they are only worth a penny or less. Individual, popular better items with higher catalog values (three figures and up) may garner better offers from dealers, but then what do you do with the remainder? That is called “cherry picking”. My point is that an offer of only 5% or thereabouts of catalog from a reputable dealer is not unreasonable for buying an entire typical stamp collection.
Quality is a HUGE factor, too. Every collection is unique and may hold treasures or may be at the other end of the spectrum. Pictures help.
If you have questions, feel free to ask.
A quick way to catalog is skip everything low priced, say under 50c catalog or some other value - just count them - only enter the data for better items. That can save you hours of work. Also- list MNH sets as one item, not individual stamps. They always sell as sets anyways.
