As there's none, i decided to create this new thread on "Explorers", that (perhaps) moderators could merge with the existing "James Cook" one.
Let's start with the Sweden 1973 explorers' issue:
And see, what happens...

Although he's better known as the father of living organisms naming (the so called "binomial nomenclature") the Swedish scientist Karl von Linne (1707-1778) also explored Lapland and other areas of his country. Booklet issued by Sweden in 1979 on Linne's travels.

Thank you Steve, I should know this. My question started with wrong thinking that this stamp was being posted FDC in Louisiana and that's where my twisted mind led me to wonder..

REL1948, It's all good and I should've answered in a better way. Because honestly, I don't know what cursus meant regarding the stamp. My only thought was the expedition into the new territory.

Well, this is an explorers' thread. Lewis & Clark, explored the former French Territory of Louisiana. So, they were explorers. That's the reason for the stamp being here. What else, do you need?

Historic Sites of Manitoba: La Verendrye Monument (Legislative Building, Winnipeg) Pierre Gaultier, Sieur de la Verendrye (1685-1749), born in Canada. In search of the Western sea, he explored the central part of the North American continent to within sight of the Rocky Mountains. He reached the Red River at the Forks (Winnipeg) in 1738. Canada Post issued this stamp, 1958-Jun-4 in honour of this French 18th Century Western Canada explorer.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

We cannot feature explorers without having Jacques Cartier joining in. He first appeared on a Canadian stamp in January 1855. (Unitrade 7). He appeared again in the first cents issue as shown on the far right. (Unitrade 19). My favorite Cartier stamp is the 1934 issue in the centre celebrating the 400th anniversary of his landing in Canada. (Unitrade 208) There are several others over the years.
