Hello everyone,
I would like to introduce myself as a new member to the stamp forum.
I am based near Blackpool and am very much an amateur in the world of philately.
About 30 years ago I inherited around 10-12 stamp albums from a family friend who sadly passed. I have wanted to catalogue and value them for some year and have recently found time and started to do so.
It’s been very interesting delving into philately, some of its history and and the various different stamps out there. I’m am looking forward to looking further.
I am currently using the Stanley Gibbons online catalogue to find, value and catalogue the collection. Could I ask you much more experienced members if this is a trusted method to use?
Thank you for having me and I look forward to discussing more topics in the future.

Welcome to the Forum gareth85
you will find our members have different views about cataloging and creating inventories.
There is a thread about this subject on the Forum. In general I think overall it a a person choice based on your needs.
For catalogues I use diffent ones depending on the country. Unitrade for Canada, Scott’s for Us, SG Uk and Commonwealth. Michel for most of Europe. For inventory I purchased Stamp Manage. It is all Scott’s but there is away to add other Catalogue numbers. I use Colnect to find stamps numbers when I do not have a catalogue. Most major catalogues are represented.
This works for me. All I want to know is what do I own? How much it might be worth is interesting but not necessary.

Hello and welcome!
I have not used the online tool from Gibbons, but I believe it is based on their six-volume Stamps of the World. This is a simplified catalogue that does not list shades or perforation or watermark differences. If the goal is to build a collection of all face different stamps, then SotW is the catalogue to use.
