I'd like a second (or third) opinion on the color of this 5-shilling KGV, please. (Scott 37, and SG67) The choices in SG are deep rose-red (1912), reddish maroon (1914) or maroon (1916). I'm pretty sure it is deep rose-red, but I'd be interested in other thoughts. (On my screen, at least, the stamp and the scan are pretty close in appearance...I understand your mileage may vary.) Thanks.

Hard to tell, given variations introduced by putting a photo on line, but I'd say reddish maroon based on what I'm looking at. Very attractive stamp.

It appears to be a Reddish Maroon.

I always thought that maroon was already reddish.....

I would say it's red (Heijtz) / deep rose-red (SG), not maroon. The different versions of maroon are very similar and can be distinguished using UV.
The reddish maroon is purple under UV and the maroon is brown under UV.
I lways thought my maroon was the cheaper version but just checked under a UV light I've only recently bought and it was purple
Edit: My red looks more like the scan of cjd 's red than the scan of my red !!

I've got 20p on it being Red (Heijtz) / Deep Rose-Red (SG) and from the early printing.
Gem of a stamp and I am sure, a welcome addition to the collection...
Have fun and happy collecting!
