This was found among a small collection of Queen Queen Wilhelmina stamps - Type 'Veth' and initially the philatelic question was, given the unusual postmark, "what is it"?
The Netherlands, 1869. 1½ cent rose, "State Coat of Arms", perf. 13 ¼
In doing the original posting, with the stamp's image on the screen, there was the proverbial 'Eureka!' moment as it was noted that the postmark was upside down and the mind turned to an earlier discussion here on The Stamp Forum about "franco" cancellations. The search was on and from the De Nederlandse Academie voor Filatelie website along with the fragments of letters in the postmark, the cancellation was narrowed down to either from Amsterdam or Rotterdam, but indeed a " Franco Takjestempels".
Now the one remaining question about the stamp is its paper, it is thick i.e. 0,16 - 0.17 mm and almost card like; do any of the specialised Dutch catalogues recognise or note any paper varieties with this issue?
If anyone has further knowledge or insights, please do share...
Have fun and happy collecting!
