The 1c Magenta sold as NFT pieces was a complete failure. They probably sold less than 20% of the 50% that was allocated for public sale. A few are available now on Showpiece at £62 compared with the £100 issue price!

I setup a Veve account when I was investigating the USPS stamp art series. It didn't take me long to realise it's just a lottery.
The Penny Black is the same such lottery as you don't of course know which edition you get when you make your purchase. From Veve website these are the details in order, rarity, quantity issued, quantity retained by Veve and the current floor price.
Common 4058 90 $2.98
Rare 2840 90 $3.30
Ultra Rare 1840 90 $6.99
Secret Rare 150 6 $427
So out of 8,612 (8,888 - 276) sold to the public at $10, there was a 1.7% chance of getting one valued at $427 (if you can sell it at that price) and 98.3% chance that you got one currently valued at between ($2.98 and $6.99).
In addition of course those that were lucky to get the 'Secret Rare' edition also received a slabbed Penny Black. It will be interesting to see what these NFT people do with the Penny Black when they receive them, I doubt if a slabbed stamp, even a Penny Black, will entice anyone to become a stamp collector. On Ebay soon?
From an email received yesterday, they have now teamed with Veve to offer 4 Penny Black NFTs with 150 slabbed Penny Blacks:
From SG website (via email):
In October we partnered with VeVe on a limited edition release surrounding one of the most famous stamps known to collectors, The Penny Black. Selling out within minutes all 8468 editions found new homes with 150 purchasers receiving a limited edition physical Penny Black stamps as part of the launch.
Stanley Gibbons is committed to introducing Philately to a wider audience in the coming years and Veve offered an exceptional opportunity to do just that with collectors ranging from their 20's to their 90s! Not only are collectors now in possession of the digital and physical collectables, but they are also learning about the history of our wonderful hobby and hopefully hooked!
In another first for Stanley Gibbons, the 150 physical Penny Blacks were encapsulated in an SG slab which guarantees authenticity and protects the stamp. The response has been incredible so keep an eye out, as something similar may well be available to SG customers very soon...

I guess Stanley Gibbons made a profit on it so they will see it as a good deal, however it doesn't do their reputaiton any good, please stick to stamps and publications.
