Hi everyone,
I’m excited to join this community and learn more about the world of stamp collecting. My name is Jessica, and I’m based outside of Los Angeles. I recently inherited my grandmother’s stamp collection, which she started as a child. She collected stamps from all over the world, and now I have boxes filled with stamps that I’m eager to explore. The collection spans various countries and time periods, and I’m still sorting through it all. Some of the stamps are organized and many are not, so I am starting the process to learn what is what. I’m new to the hobby but would love any tips on how to organize, preserve, gift or sell some of them. I also would like to learn about the history behind some of the stamps and connect with other collectors.
Looking forward to diving in and getting to know you all!
Best, Jessica

Welcome Jessica to TSF! A very friendly forum.
Please explore the site as there is a huge volume of information here. Questions may get much quicker response if you include a scan or photo of the stamp(s) you have questions about. A flatbed scanner is an extremely useful tool!
Enjoy your time here!
Cheers Stan Northern California

Welcome Jessica!
Organization is an obsession of mine (why do we focus on what we're worst at? 😂) Looking forward to learning more about your collection. Like Stan said, there's lots of info on the site, so feel free to jump in!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I am starting to dig into a smaller box of loose stamps and look them up in the catalog on stamporama and write down the information in a spreadsheet. It is easy when the stamp has the country name on it and I have the approximate dates, but what is the best place to post stamps where I want some help with identification? Let me know if you suggest a better process to identify and inventory them.

Welcome Jessica,
If you have a smart phone, I would recommend downloading 'Stamp Identifier' from Colnect as a first resort.

Thanks for your introduction post, jess, and welcome to TSF! I also live in Southern California, in the Ontario-Upland area. Are you willing to say where you are? Depending on your location, you may want to consider joining a local stamp club, too. There are a number of them around in the region. Anyway, welcome again to TSF and to one of the world’s greatest hobbies. I hope you will enjoy it! Best wishes, Chris
