My name is Roy Blaine, I live in Pendleton, Oregon. The phrase I quoted in the post title is the motto of the world famous Pendleton Round Up, held the second week in September since 1910. Though not the biggest rodeo, our Round Up Ground is the largest grass rodeo arena in the world.
Now on to stamps. I am in my mid-60s and have collected stamps from around the world since I was 4 or 5 years old. My interest was first piqued sorting through early US and Canada stamps gathered by my American great grandmother. Shortly thereafter my father gave me the scant remains of my South African great grandfather’s collection. Thus I had a good beginning of a British Africa and Commonwealth collection to supplement my North American stamps. I was hooked. As I grew older I focused on collecting British Africa stamps for a geographic collection. Additionally, growing up in Africa, I rode the great steam trains of the EAR&H and toured the great game parks of East Africa with renowned leaders in wildlife preservation. Topical collections of African Animals and Railroad stamps seemed natural. I have a long way to go before I can call any of it complete but I have a lot of fun with it.
Beyond the actual collecting, an acquaintance and I recently formed the “Eastern Oregon Stamp Collectors Club” and have begun holding meetings bimonthly at our local public library and created a group on Facebook to bring collectors together in Oregon’s “Wild West.”
