Hello!
I don't know if I'm allowed to post my real name although my nickname is Muddy. it was given to me by my friends as I have a form of short term memory loss that means I get muddled (confused) quite often — hence muddled → Muddy  Feel free to call me anything you like, I don't mind.
I am completely new to the world of stamps — I just started this week. I had heard of people that were interested in and collected them, but I never really looked into it myself. Now that I have I realise just how vast the world of stamps is and I'm finding there is plenty for me to get my daily dose of dopamine from.
I'm from the UK, so I'm just now learning about our Machin definitives. I'm particularly interested in the barcode / datamatrix ones that were released in 2022. I was actually out of the country when they were introduced and so am just now discovering that out old stamps are no longer in use — quite a shock! I am generally a very curious person and it bugs me not knowing what those barcodes are hiding, so I've been trying to figure it out. From what I understand they are a vital part of the fight against counterfeiting and stamp reuse fraud. If anyone knows anything about them or could tell me where I could learn about them I would be definitively indebted to you 
So far I have a rather poor collection of stamps, just ones I could find at the post office. I hope to expand that collection as I discover the types that interest me.
Also, please forgive me, I'm new to this forum format, I'm still trying to figure out how to find and follow conversations. I hope I'm not doing anything wrong...
I'm excited to make some philatelic friends. Feel free to ask any questions you like. I understand that this is an international forum, so I also speak French if there happens to be anyone else here that does too.

What I collect: My focus is on Wild Mammals on maximum cards. Occasionally, I get or create maximum cards with other animals, or any other topic.

Welcome. We are a very friendly bunch here with lots of different collecting interests. I don’t know exactly why the barcodes are used but I think you are on the right track with counterfeiting. I’m sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Muddy, your guess was close - I live in Edmundston (New Brunswick), less than 10km from the Quebec border. Most of our population in NW New Brunswick are french speaking. I do love Québec, having done 5 years of Post Graduate studies at Laval University.My Boucher ancestors came from the Normandie area in FRANCE.
