I am a new member joining this Stamp Forum. My collecting interests include Italy, Germany and France. I collect Italy (my mothers country of origin) and Germany ( my father always declared proudly that he was Bavarian!). I collect these countries as a memorial to my parents. My collections are titled "Historic and Philatelic Collection" as I spend time researching the history behind the stamp image. This research is then added into the collection on the opposite side of the stamp page. In this way, I can read the history and see the stamp reading left to right. Philatelically I research the work done to create the image and the printing, etc. I enjoy older stamps as the engraving is very intricate and therefore very beautiful. I collect France as the printing techniques are very unique. The way they blend the colours is amazing. Also, the Semi Postals alone give the collector a detailed view of the society at that time. I collect covers and post cards as they add an additional dimension to the country and its cities. I enjoy researching the envelopes - the sender, the receiver and how it got there! I am joining to learn from you about the historic and philatelic details. Your philatelic friend, Richard Kingston, Ontario, Canada

Richard, welcome to TSF! I am a Canadian of German heritage and just completed a re-organization of my German stamps. Unlike you though, I am a G.P. - a general philatelist, with collecting interests from around the world. I can appreciate your interest in the study of these stamps. As I looked at my small German collection, I was amazed at all the variety there, the history and stories. Perhaps one day I will dig a little deeper. Anyway, welcome and I hope you enjoy all that this Forum offers. - Tim
