Anyone using this software?
I need to know how to set, "Print Current Page" as a default
It can be a pain when you hit "print" if you have a 102 page document, and it is set to "print all" as default.
Thanks.

Hi Rodney
I just re-installed Foxit Reader to see what you are asking for.
Printing one page as a default is NOT a function of the Foxit reader but a print dialog setting. When you click Foxit Print and the print dialog is displayed, under print range click on current page and print. If you want to print a page other than the current and you know the page number, or numbers, you can click on Pages and enter the page number(s) in the box and then print.
There is one thing to check:
Go to Control Panel Open the Printers and Faxes folder Right-Click on your default printer's name Click on Printing Preferences
Check if there is a printer setting for printing just the current page. Not all printers will have the setting. I have an Epson printer and I don't see that setting. Realize that this will change the setting for ALL printing. Other than that one could possibly change a default printer Registry setting (haven't checked). That solution is not recommended, especially if you have never edited the registry before. Maybe someone has a way without any of the above. The easiest method is to just click current page before printing.

Thanks all, thanks Jerry, your advice above and beyond the call of duty, I appreciate your time spent on my behalf. Yep my Brother gives no option to print current page.
"The easiest method is to just click current page before printing." say what !?
Imagine hitting print accidentally, on a 120 page document, which I did. the blessed thing is spitting out pages of pristine archival paper, with no "stop" button Like I said many times, the IT people who design these things are in some ways entirely stupid. I had to pull out the paper tray to stop the thing, even when the computer was off, it wanted to print the rest of the 120 pages.
Default should be current page, in my opinion.

Rod, I agree with you on what the default SHOULD be. As far as I know, no reader has that option, included the bloated Adobe.

I also agree that there should be an easy way to set "Print Current Page" as the default. Further, as a proud tree hugger, I wish there was a way to set a message to pop up when one of my coworkers blithely hits "Print" on a PDF document that's more than, say, 40 pages long. Maybe something like this: As an alternative, I would accept a setting that defaults any print job over said 40-page limit to a duplex printer.

G'Day Rodney "The easiest method is to just click current page before printing." say what !?Sorry about that. When the printer dialog comes up, in the section "Print Range" there are some options:
All | Probably selected | Current View | Don't worry about it | Current Page | Select this to print the page currently displayed. | Pages | Use this to print a set of pages. Not the document page number but the physical page number. That means document page could be Page 34, but physical page is 1. Define page numbers as follows: Consecutive Pages 1-5 Non Consecutive 11,34,51 Both 1-5,11,34,51
|
I will check to see if Foxit can have addins. If so, I will look to see what language the addin has to be in. In that case I might be able to create an addin to do what you want. If an addin, there will probably be another button on Foxit's toolbar. I had to pull out the paper tray to stop the thing,In order to stop printing, you have to delete the print job. Pulling out the paper tray is not the answer because as soon as you put it back printing will resume. There may still data in the printer's print buffer and it will print no matter what. The following is one way, and maybe the easiest way to cancel a print job. Windows 7 and 8 print dialog may be slightly different. 1. Go to Control Panel a. Open the Printers and Faxes folder b. Right Click the default printer (usually has a check mark on it. c. In the Right Click menu select Create Shortcut. A message will be displayed: Windows cannot create a shortcut here/ Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the Desktop instead?
d. Click Yes e. Close all dialogs and windows. A shortcut to the printer should now be on your desktop. To use the Shortcut
1. Double Click the shortcut icon on the desktop. 2. A printer dialog will open showing the document that is currently being printed as well as any other documents ready to be printed. 3. Click on the document whose printing is to be canceled. It should now be highlighted. 4. On the dialog box menu bar Click Document
5. On the Dropdown Menu click CancelIt can be done without the shortcut but shortcuts are cheap. One caveat. When printing any document, print lines are sent to the Pc spooler and then to the printer's buffer (depends on application). The print job cancel does not occur until the spooler asks the application for more data or, most likely, the printer's print buffer is empty. Therefore, you may get a couple of extra pages but surely not the whole nine yards. I hope this helps you some. I agree with BC. I have never seen a reader yet that had that option. BTW: See us software people are not all that stupid ZuZu:
I just read your reply. If I can create an addin to Foxit I will incorporate that feature. I am not sure if Acrobat can have addins without Adobe's software library which costs big bucks. Jerry B

No, no, no... I was just venting about some of the folks here at work. We all use Adobe, so yeah. I've almost got my boss trained, though. When he needs to print something that looks somewhat large, he'll just let me do it.

The simplest thing would be to right click a page, and have a "print current page" option. Why is it that so little thought is put into useful functionality for some software, rendering it to almost total uselessity? *rant over*

Hi
It seems that the only way to create a Foxit Addon, or addin, is to use their development library which costs dollars.
So to Rodney, be careful when printing.
To Zuzu. I thought you were for real. In 40+ years of consulting I have seen such a thing twice. Once I created it when someone ran a report for 48 months of data and I had to add a similar type of message to the software. The other someone else did.

Jerry, have a desktop Icon now...Thanks very much to your extended advice.. As a new user of a printer, one cannot forsee what is going to happen, or how to fix it, whilst the machine is spitting out archival pages at 50 sheets a minute, pulling out the paper tray is THE only option in this scenario. I did cancel the printing job, but the printer was having none of that, it was printing the whole 120 pages baby! I have had other advice on another forum where one has to "pause" the print job, THEN cancel the print job. also, others chipped in of instances where secretaries have printed reams of not need paper, so I am not the only Dunce I managed collateral damage to 30 sheets, so I'll print on the back of them.

Hi Rodney,
I did not know about Pausing the print job before canceling. Thanks for posting the tip. I'll remember it for the future.
I looked into some ways to do what you want. Most is duplicating the functionality of the printer dialog and driver. So, as I said before, be careful and if you aren't you have the icon to cancel the print job.

Help on hacking my own *.pdf's please.
I create my own Album Page *.pdf's I make a typo and try to alter the text I use Libre Office (Free) and can open and edit my text.
Libre Office will then not save as an *.pdf file rather, an ot? (I think) Libreoffice flat text file.
Any workarounds rather than to have to build a complete new PDF file?
Thanks PS I use Foxit reader.

I binned it, I download the *.exe file from CNet, it was half way through the install, and it needed to download a subsidiary program from the internet called "ghost soft? 15 Mb, which it couldn't find. I am a bit gun shy with dodgy software, so I removed it as a safeguard.

You can download it form here: www.ghostscript.com/download/gsdnld.htmlTons of different programs will make a call to the ghostscript command line tool to import a PDF for editing.

"Rod, This may be what you're looking for."
Steve, you are a Godsend. Woohoo, You have saved me oodlies of work and frustration. Very much appreciated. So I can open any PDF in Libre Office, edit text and re save as a PDF.
The last software I visited, was "Free Trial" ("Go on, try it now") was the teaser, no price listed of course, so you take your shopping basket right to point of sale, before you learn $218 When are these velvet scammers going to wake up, this route doesn't work. (or at least shouldn't)
PS: Used Sumatra pdf reader for several years without issue, I cannot recall why I changed to Foxit, I think there maybe were files Sumatra had issue with later.

The only issue you might run into is font spacing. I'll have to do some testing. If you don't have the same font on your system that the original author did, you may run into problems with stuff not being centered when you save it back out.

insert code here insert code here Yep, sure enough. It's going to throw your centering off on stuff. I played around with Steiner's stampalbums.com pages. He uses Helvetica as his font. I don't have Helvetica installed on my system. So, LibreOffice substitutes in another font. So, the text box the font is in is centered, but the text no longer fills the box, so it's off to the left. The obvious solution would be to install Helvetica, but it looks like not all Helvetica is the same. I installed Helvetica from the Adobe Font Folio, and it also does not fill the page. Solution #2 would be to center in the text box. For some reason, when I select the text in the box and choose to center it, it does not move. I'll need to tinker with it some more and see what's going on. So, here's the unmodified page: And here's the edited page: You can see how the centering is off in image 2.

Andy, I am working with my personally built PDF's, not Steiners. I use whichever font I prefer, in a text document in MSWorks my favourite, select the text and paste it into my PDF.
It pastes as a block, and I can place it where I wish, but it does not "snap to grid" in the centre. This would not suit you with your exacting requirements. (observation, not criticism)

"Modern" spreadsheets (maybe not in MSWorks, I can't remember but I don't think MSWorks 4.5 has any merging capabilities) will allow you to merge cells together. You can then centre the text in the merged cell. So, you could merge all the cells in a line so it becomes one single cell equal to the width of the borders of your page. Enter your text and then centre that within the merged cell and you'll have text that will be centred on your page. If you change the text, or the font size, or font type, the edited text will still be centred. Ryan

Cute. MSWorks does not merge (I thought it did in the spreadsheet) Easily enough adapted however, Open MSWorks (template made to order) that has a page formatted to the width of my PDF pages
Any desired text therefore is centred automatically with 1 click. Voila! Thanks Ryan.
