Those are Jack's words, not mine. But they fit the story well.
Been back a week or more already and all seems like a dream. Holidays usually are for me, especially where stamps are concerned. For anyone here who doesn't know, I arrange my holidays around Stamp 'Events' [and not Vice-Versa] and everything else fits in accordingly. It usually works.
A taste of what was to come occurred after only a few hours from Landing in old Blighty. An eBay seller that wouldn't post to Israel sent an item to my Mum's house. It set the tone.........
The holiday was only two days old when I found myself in the company of our dear member MARIUS and it was a very special day. We met at the Leigh Stamp Fair and apart from my Camera breaking down and the lack of visitors, it was a nice little event. Only a handful of dealers but I still managed to find some nice pieces, including some Exhibition and Congress material.
I found this one and it's 3 equally beautiful sisters [set of 4 ] for a decent price. Not often seen in such good condition.
MARIUS then took me to his home where I was showered with lovely gifts, including many beatutiful Flag Poster stamps and his own Agartha and London locals which I will show in the appropriate threads. I saw his wonderful stamps and covers all beautifully presented. I also got to look at the 'Oldest stamp Album' in the world filled with some amazing material [see an earlier thread by Marius]. It was truly a joy to behold.....and to hold !! Also, his Space collection was just superb. I was honoured to meet his wife, daughter and Mum-in-Law and was served an excellent meal. The day was hard to beat. We met again, briefly, before I returned to Israel. I hope we will meet again next time. Thanks for everything MARIUS.
My next 'event' was the Stafford Stamp Show where I had been once before in 2011. I found some nice items on that occasion and I did this time too. I stayed with a friend in Stafford and we were up early for the show. We arrived ½hour after the doors opened and it was already packed !! Who said Philately was dead ? Even Royal Mail turned up on this occasion....well, sort of !
More from Stafford and more besides........in PART TWO !!
