Hello all! I'm a newbie focusing mainly on used US stamps, but I'm also interested in having topical collections of botanical drawings/flora, bats (the mammals), space, and stars (illustrations of the shape). I love Mr. Zip and have quite a few Zip singles, as well. I'm interested in all things postal, really. I have a Mailer's Postmark Permit since earlier this year (which I haven't used nearly enough), and I issued my own fantasy local post stamp in April. If I can figure out how to fix my settings so the javascript works for me on here, I'll likely set an image of my stamp as my avatar.

Zuzu -- great to see you here! I always enjoyed your posts elsewhere, and am glad to see you here! (By the way, that cover never did make it out here to California -- I figure that it was attractive enough that maybe it caught someone's eye along the way.)
And did you see some of the news a couple of weeks ago about the 50th anniversary of Mr. Zip? If not, I'll try to post some of that (including the TV commercials they produced back then).

Welcome aboard, Zuzu! It sounds like our topical section will be growing in the very near future.

Thanks Jack! Apparently, I just needed to clear my browser history and cache to get things to work correctly. Aw, Dave, that stinks! I'm planning on picking up a mini handheld rotary perforator at the craft store for another project, so maybe I'll have to release a new variety... Steve, I've already noticed the thread for space stamps!

I'm actually familiar with that website, Just Something I Made, because it has great vintage graphics that I've used in mail art and other creative endeavors. I may try the sewing machine method at some point, but I'm not there yet... my machine isn't up and running right now, and I'm too lazy focused on other things to mess with it. I'm planning on making some posts in that Cinderella thread/board about what I've tried and how things have worked for me.

I'm planning on picking up a mini handheld rotary perforator at the craft store for another project I'm still obsessing on the perforator comment. Would this be an actual perforator, punching little holes in the paper, or a rouletter, which instead creates little slits in the paper, kind of like the way the coupons flyers are done? I ask because, when I looked at scrapbooking supplies a few years ago, I saw a roulleter, which I believe may have been called a perforator, but I couldn't find a true perforator. Here's an example of stamps that are both perforated and rouletted: from this Wikipedia article on stamp separation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postage_stamp_separationLarger image here: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d9/South_West_Africa_bantam_stamps.jpg-- Dave

Dave, it was a rouletter, and I ended up not buying it. The image posted on the manufacturer's website made it seem like the "slices" wouldn't be too long, but when I found it in person, they were too long for my taste.
I would love to find a handheld perforator, but I'm not wanting to spend much. In the meantime, I bought a tracing wheel found in the sewing notions. I have to press really hard to get it to go through paper, but the results are better than what I have now (a pair of fancy-edged scissors), and it only cost $1.99. =)

Hey, Zuzu! Per our (now-deleted) Shoutbox chat, I managed to drop by Zuzu Chicken and take a few pics. (The files a little larger than I would normally post, but did that in case you wanted to download them. Let me know if you need larger ones yet. These are at 50% of original size.) (Update: Actually the ones shows below are smaller than that, reduced by the board software. Right-click to "view image" and I think that'll give you the 50% ones.) Unfortunately, they weren't open when I was there. (Too early.) But I intend to get back there sometime soon and check it out. Here's their website (prepare for audio): www.zuzuchicken.com/And they get good reviews on Yelp: www.yelp.com/biz/zuzu-chicken-glendoraLet me know the next time you come out here to do a site visit! -- Dave P.S. The first pic is the gratuitous palm tree shot!

I LOVE IT! The logo is adorable - I'm not sure it makes me want to eat chicken, though. XD I think I'll use that logo as a facebook profile pic for a while.

Zuzu: Good point about the logo -- maybe I'll wait awhile before ordering the chicken kebobs! (Fortunately, the baklava looks pretty good ... )
Glad you enjoyed the pics!

post some of your stuff we love pictures. I've set aside a whole pile of stuff to scan. I just have to bring it here to the office - no scanner at home.

It's come to my attention that I'm apparently "closeted" so I thought I would expand on my original post. I'm still figuring out where my interests lie, but these are some of my favorite topics/themes: - botanical prints/drawings
- space
- stars (i.e. star-shaped illustrations)
- classic covers or postcards to/from Nebraska - especially Grand Island or Hastings
- bats (the mammal, not the stick)
- Mr. Zip
- monkeys
- sea creatures
I'm also developing an appreciation for Machins. My daughters seem moderately interested, so I try to encourage them and have been thinking of getting them some basic supplies so that they can have their own fun. My 9-year old likes weather (and space), and my 6-year old likes cute or unusual animals.
