Austro-Hungarian. A fund-raising stamp for a Charity set up in 1918 in the name of Emperor Charles of Austria-Hungary. Funds were used to help families of fallen soldiers.

This I believe may be a " pretend stamp" used maybe for training purposes....it says " Brief / Marke" (stamp) and has a blank line for Heller, the old currency of Austria. I got it in a recent small lot of stamps, just the kind of things I like to find!

More examples from the early 20thC 'Tuberculosis for Children' Charity Stamps series (1908-1913) showing the beautiful Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Born in Munich, lived in Austria, Queen of Hungary and was murdered in Geneva, Switzerland. Her popularity never waned it seemed as this issue was produced many years after her death. Designed by Josef Urban. Printed by Typography on Chalk-Surfaced paper. Not all types are shown. (Still searching !)

Beautiful designs of these Poster Stamps produced to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria in June 1908.

regarding jimwentzell's post of over a year ago, yes that's a training stamp. I posted an example in 2016... The explanation I got from Mr Andy Taylor at the Austrian Philatelic Society was, "The expert says: It isn't a children's play item. It's a Schulungsmarke, used in formal lessons especially in what I would call Technical Schools on how to carry out the umpteen complicated functions required of a Post Office employee. I add: There was a series of Exams which a prospective employee had to pass. I had thought that they might be recruited first and trained by their employer, but it looks as if they had to get themselves trained at the State's - or more likely their own - expense." He emphasized calling it a teaching stamp rather than training as it was used in schools not at the post office itself.

I came across this one in my piles of stuff a while back and don't recall whether I still have it someplace, or whether it was sent away to somebody else. So, I nabbed the image from a Delcampe seller. ha ha The beautiful and exceedingly vain Empress Elisabeth of Austria. I think this label was to benefit tuberculosis care. Here's the photograph on which the portrait is based: Since my old post was made, I've found a copy of a biography for my library. The book is a bit of an unusual one, it's in English but was published in Germany by one of the major paperback publishers over there so the title goes up the spine the way they do there, instead of down the spine like the books over here. Hi Joan cursus , Interesting now we know it is for the WIENER MESSE , Vienna Fair , you can see the letters WM here and also in similar but slightly different format in the 1933 and 1934 issues which you illustrate a couple of posts earlier. This one is in Czech language for 1936 and your 1933 issue is in Italian . Evidently there must be several language variants to find., and other years eg 1935 ?

Here are the 1935 and 1937 ones
I don't really collect them. But, as I like very much Central Europe (although my German is very poor!) I pick these when I find them cheap. And, those, were really cheap. Here, people, don't care about cinderellas. The problem is that they don't even stock them. So, they're hard to find. I've even had to lecture a seller on what cinderellas are, and to tell him: "I can be a buyer, if you ever have them".

Never mind all those Cape of Good Hope triangles , here's an Austrian Franz Joseph Land Cinderella or bogus stamp based on that design. Issued in 1874 by Austrian stamp dealer Sigmund Friedl. Franz Joseph Land is an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean first reported by the Austro-Hungarian North Pole Expedition (1872-74) in 1873 and named after Emperor Franz joseph I. Annexed by the Soviet Union in 1926. Issued in various colours.

This seal type label commemorates the visit to Prague (also Leitmeritz, Theresienstadt and Aussig) of Emperor Frans Josef in June 1901. A very smart looking item despite the edge chip.

This is a very interesting lot from 1914 and, presumably, just prior to the events leading to the First World War. It was issued for the Emperor's Welfare Association for Women and Children, Vienna. The stamps depict: Top row: Emperor Franz Josef, his heir and nephew Archduke Franz Ferdinand assassinated that year, Karl Count von Stürgkh the authoritarian Prime Minister assassinated in 1916, Army Commander-in Chief Archduke Friedrich. Second row: Chief of Staff Conrad von Hötzendorf, Prime Minister of Hungary Count Tisza, Foreign Minister Count von Berchtold Third row: General Moritz Ritter von Auffenburg, General Victor Dankl and German Kaiser Wilhelm II
