Hi
Based on Steve's great work in becoming an APS chapter I wonder how many TSF members are also APS members. Also it would be interesting to see how many would consider joining.

Hi
There has to be more than 4 APS members on this board. We did have 5 for the application. It is not a matter of voting but it is a "survey" to find out how many APS members there really are and how many may be interested in joining.
I think it was Steve who said we get $5 for each member and we could apply it to removing ads. That, as far as I know, is erroneous. The money we get for each new individual member that is accepted goes to reduction of the yearly dues. I do not know what happens if enough individuals are accepted that the rebate is over the current dues.
Sundman from Mystic Stamps is always at the top of the yearly recruitment list with at least 100. How he does it is a mystery to me.

It was I that said that the forum would receive the $5 referral bonus. I really don't know at this point if the chapter would receive the bonus for referrals or if it would be applied to my account if I functioned as the chapter's designated representative to be the referring member. If the chapter isn't eligible to receive the bonus then I would transfer an amount equal to any funds or credit I received to the forum for its use as deemed appropriate. This is one of several unknowns that will have to wait until the APS acts on our application and I can pose such questions to them. EDIT: The APS ad that I posted in this thread does say that a check will be mailed. The APS will provide its members, upon request and at no cost, prepaid referral cards for their use in recruitment. I include one of these cards when mailing an item sold on ebay. I also include in the packing slip a statement suggesting that the recipient not only consider APS membership but also join us on this discussion forum.

Folks,
Was wondering how many members belong to the APS. I've been a member in good standing since 1984.
Let's see how many others are card carrying members.
Regards from Canada Bill

billfromlachine I tried membership in APS but found NO benefit to me.I just joined BNAPS but so far am not impressed with them either. For me to spend money out of my stamp budget there must be some "stampy" reward. If I find none I would rather just buy more stamps with the money.

I've been a member since 2012. There's very little benefit for overseas members, but as a seller, membership carries some cache

I am the same as firstfrog2013. I was a member of the RPSC and APS years ago. Then restarted both recently. APS even restored my old number. But after being on APS, RPSC & BNAPS for a bit, I didn't see much of a benefit to any of them & declined to re-new each this year. I'll stay here though...

I am member 177-681 having joined, if memory serves, around 1985. A couple times my membership lapsed briefly but lately I try to keep current! Have to look at "lifetime membership" is that an option for those approaching 60 years of age?

Hi Jim Note: The below is with "tongue in cheek"
Estimated US male lifespan approximately 80 years Assuming the APS yearly membership fee stays at $45 (in all probability will not) Your approaching age 60 Therefore 20 years to end of life (80-60)(scary isn't it ) Based on the above assumptions the total APS dues would be 20 x 45 = $900 Currently Life membership fee for ages 55 - 64 is $1,075 Therefore the difference is ( $1,075-$900 ) = $175 The APS offers a 12 month payment plan for the $1,075. Therefore, each monthly payment will be ($1,075 / 12) approximately $90/month Therefore for 1 year you will lose ($90 - $45) $45 per month If you croak at the estimated 80 years of age, you lose $175. However, if you beat the odds and the yearly APS dues rise (which it definitely will) you will actually save money ($175+).
There is no set rule for Life Membership. It is at the member's discretion. You will have the prestige of being a Life Member. PS: This is what you get with an engineer responding to your question Jerry B

Hi Jerry!
Thanks for the info, I just never got around to checking their "lifetime membership" fee schedule. Truthfully, I thought it would be a bit more of a bargain but it seems not, unless, like you wrote, I end up living a long time. Not willing to bet on that right now, it will save me a bit of money for more stamps in the short term :-)!

I am not sure what is the prestige of being a life member means. I will qualify shortly (grandfathered in old plan) and do not think anything will change except if I becomes life member I do not need to pay dues. I actually want to keep my original number!
