This post relates to an item that I pulled out of storage some time ago and was originally found during an office clean up that I undertook when working for a Hotel/Resort Company in Papua New Guinea several years ago
Departure Tax Stamps are not postage stamps but are classed as Revenue Stamps
Papua New Guinea in 1991 started overprinting “SG 402” (7 Toea–Forest Kingfisher-Part of the 1981 Kingfishers Issue) with “DEPARTURE TAX” to collect the Tax
Three different types of “DEPATURE TAX” overprints are known to have been used on SG 402
(From L to R - O/P From 1995, O/P From May 1994 and O/P From January 1991)
The following (my item) is an example of the third type of overprint that started being used in 1995. (The stamps are MNH with a streak across the gum on the back)
