What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Still rooting through the odds and ends in this large collection. Stuck in the envelope of a FDC from a 1977 Guernsey commemorating the centenary of St. John Ambulance was this wonderful Cinderella for the Order of St. John. I did not find it posted before so hopefully this is not redundant. No records shattered but on the second attempt on eBay this Cinderella has found a new home with 2 bidders taking it up to 15.50 CDN. It just goes to show that one should never assume that something has no value.

Since the "Empire countries " are all named round the edge I wonder if the Canada map is unique or does the Cinderella exist in sheet form with other maps ?

Coronation of George VI 1937 FDC has this seal on the reverse. I am struggling to find these listings on eBay or are they listed elsewhere.

Because of the Empire countries on the edge as you mentioned I attributed it to Great Britain and did not even notice the map was my home country of Canada. The new owner is from Australia. I am interested to see if your theory may be true.

Tea Clearing House
Although sometimes counted as Revenue Stamps, they were not government issued and didn't pay for any tax. The Tea Clearing House in London was established in the late 19th century but stamps weren't issued until 1923. They were produced to provide brokers and dealers with a means of pre-payment for the small services rendered by tea warehouse keepers. These services would have included the providing of samples of tea and labelling and addressing of tea chests.
Shown here are 5 values from the 1923 issue, a farthing, one half pence, one penny, three and a half pence and seven pence. All cancelled with an oval datestamp.

Stonehenge RevisitedIn fact, there were 7 stamps in this set (plus each stamp had its own variant) and I have changed the image in the above post. Here is a signed card, 'used' examples on piece and the sheetlet of the triangular stamp.

The Lost City of Z Surveyor and explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett theorised that a lost city, that he named simply Z, existed in the jungle of Mato Grosso state in Brazil. Due to the First World War he was not able to begin his search until 1920 but this expedition was unsuccessful. In 1925 he returned with his son, Jack and his son's friend but all three disappeared. Later that year, another expedition discovered Kuhikugu near the Xingu River and further discoveries seemed to support Fawcett's theory. More recently a film was made based on a book of the same name. This stamp, shown in a block of 8, is modern and probably produced by Mark Valentine.

The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company This Ship Letter Stamp was sold by their agents and paid the postage on letters carried by RMSPC ships operating in the Danish West Indies when a government mail service was not available. Produced in 1875 and in use up to 1880. Covers exist but are relatively rare. The company flag is shown, ten cents rose or carmine. Machin size. Other shipping companies also issued their own stamps. Also showing a letter from the company from 1927.

A beautiful set from the Prince of Wales Hospital Fund Vignette : "Charity" by Sir Joshua Reynolds The 2/6d exists in a scarce red-brown shade. Recess printing was carried out on 3 hand operated machines. Finally found one of the 2/6d in the scarce red-brown version. I spotted it in this job lot, put in a bid and won it quite cheaply. It is a nice clean stamp which has not been affected by any chemical reaction. Here is a close-up next to the standard red version:

A recent purchase. Described as being produced by Harrison and Sons. Almost certainly a misidentification based on the assumption that it depicted Thomas Harrison. Although there is a resemblance it clearly depicts the first Duke of Wellington with his distinctive hooked nose. The perforations are too scruffy for Harrisons, so of unknown origin. A good find.

a recent U.K. charity shop find - before I knew what a philatelic 'Cinderella' was - and I bought them purely for their historic interest. They really are very interesting labels and so appealing as to history and artistic merit - I might be getting hooked. Don't think any go back as far as the C19, but certainly there are a few from around the WW I period. I've only photographed a few of the pages from the entire booklet - hope these are interesting. Love the page of chocolate related examples. Hi Paul, that was a good find. I occasionally find some postage stamps in charity shops but have never found any Cinderellas. They are mostly, as you say, British with the exception of the red stamp which is an Egyptian customs stamp and the chocolate stamps are all Swiss. Please do show more. Thanks, Daniel

Could anyone please tell me what these labels are used for and who might be the names behind the initials, H & C, S D and R & J ? Thanks.

They look a bit better after a nice warm bath I've also discovered what the initials stand for.
H&C is Home and Colonial stores, a major retail store that initially specialised in tea.
R&JT is for R J Templeton, a chain of shops which were acquired in 1919 by Home and Colonial.
SD is Shepherd's Dairy a group of stores owned by Home and Colonial.
From the Perkins Bacon engraving books:
Now I've got to find out what they were used for. Savings stamp? promotion?
Every stamp has a story to tell

From a set of 12 engraved stamps advertising Colman's products including mustard, starch, cornflower, blue and self raising flour that were produced by Perkins Bacon in 1901. These were of similar design to the lithograved stamps previously printed by Lemercier, a Paris based printing company.

Could I please ask if anyone has come across any of these cinderella labels. I can't find any images online.
'Cooper's Dip' label, printed from a plate of 50, engraved in 1901
'Val's Table Water' label, printed from a plate of 25, engraved in 1902
'Gloy Sticks' label, printed from a plate of 25, engraved in 1902
All printed by Perkins Bacon.
