Any info on this one would be appreciated. I believe this to be a cinderella, certainly purchased it today as such. Imperforated, un gummed and on very cheap paper. Roughly translates as Rothenburg O. T. the Jewel of German Past I can see red trim marks on the upper and lower right corners. Interesting image, I think. Quite the dashing horseman, possibly St. Nick?

Rothenburg is famous as what is likely the best preserved medieval city in Germany. The Wikipedia page on Rothenburg has lots of interesting tidbits on how the town was preserved - essentially, it was a victim of the Thirty Years' War, after which the town's economy was severely damaged which led to the halt of growth and development in Rothenburg. It was also spared much of the damage in WWII that damaged larger German cities to such a great extent. I visited Rothenburg in my late teenage years - I was an exchange student in Nuremberg and we made frequent trips to neighbouring locations. Most of all, I remember the criminal museum (we called it the Torture Museum, it seemed like everything in the field of justice in those days had to do with torture ...). Your poster stamp will likely show a relic from Rothenburg's medieval past, a knight or a soldier or something like that. Ryan

There was a tourism campaign by that name in the 1920s, as well as a book published around 1920 entitled "Rothenburg ob der Tauber: Das Kleinod deutscher Vergangenheit".
