I'm an F1 fan and the racing in those days was remarkable for the rapid development of the cars. Most of the cars on the stamp set shown are from 1970 - here's a 1969 car, and even those not the least bit interested in racing can see obvious differences in the car. Nowadays, 10-year-old F1 cars look almost the same as the cars of today, but back then, there was as much development in 2 years as we might see in 15 years today. It was also a ridiculously dangerous sport. The above picture shows Jochen Rindt, who narrowly escaped death when the crazy wings on that car failed at speed. He did die the next season, becoming the sport's only posthumous world champion. If you look at entry lists from the races of the day, roughly a third of the entrants will have died while racing or had been injured to the point where their careers were ended. Ryan

Great image Ryan, One thing has remained constant, Tobacco and Alchohol advertising around motor sport. Sorry to be a Grinch. I was a Stirling Moss fan, when a youngster.

Nice Ships Alan, I must get these. I was particularly interested in the Portuguese "Nao" (or common trade ship) This was similar to the type Christoforo Colon sailed to the New World on The "La Gallega" built north of Portugal at Gallicia. (He re christened it the Santa Maria) The entire three ships could fit on a tennis court, the Santa Maria being only 100 tuns. All compliment slept on the decks, which were curved to remove water, hammocks were to be invented after their visit to Hispaniola. For relief, you hung your bottom over the side. Santa Maria had 16 ordinary seamen, and 10 boys. Colon preferred the Nina due to speed as a Caravel, and he thought the Santa Maria clumsy, she looked top heavy, her mast was taller than the boat was long. Here is the Anchor from the Santa Maria

PS:
The loss of the Santa Maria, could arguably, be cited as the first occurrence of "drink driving" causing loss of life, in the New World. (in the order of 30 deaths)

In case you have ever wondered, like me, as to why Butterflies fly in such crazy patterns. Watching the Cabbage butterflies in the morning whilst having a coffee in the garden, You would think they are apprentice pilots.

Love the bitter-sweet paintings of Bruegel, he was one fascinating painter (see Belgium "Blind leading the blind") There was always something "impending" in his paintings, like this woman, was she run over by the horse? Captured from a unique angle.

I thought that painting just did not belong with this group. It does fit Alan, but you need to see the entire Panorama (In the snow) from "Massacre of the Innocents" (bottom left corner)

Oh well...I thought it didn`t belong with the others because of it`s violent nature.

Here is a short set of 6 on a page that was loosely stuffed in the Regent Album I was going through earlier today.
Scott 537-542 of the Re-Election of President Stroessner. Sorry for the blurry image I am working upstairs and am to lazy to run down to the scanner so used my cell to take the picture.
