I have quite a few of these. But has anyone ever seen them without the "millionen" on the bottom? No words or numbers at all on the bottom... That's from the set issued in 1923 immediately after the inflation-value stamps. So, that's only 5 pfennige, no millions needed! The lower stamp you posted is an official stamp, the overprint reads "Dienstmarke". Ryan Thanks!! I was wondering why some of them were different. Thanks for the lesson!!

Well, I have been perusing this and other Germany threads and I must say the level of sophistication and specialization encountered there is quite impressive and a little intimidating! But I was able today to complete two more pages from my 1933-1945 German album, so I wanted to show them. The numbers under the stamps are the Michel ones.
Legal disclaimer: Philatelic interest in the issues of that period does not imply any endorsement of the propaganda carried by the stamps themselves.

But I am bound to get negative comments from the fact that I separate the definitives from the commemoratives from the semipostals. But that's the beauty of stamp collecting - I get to do it MY way!
I also think it's funny in a frustrating way that you felt you should put a disclaimer on your post. There are a lot of bad people on postage stamps, but I still feel a slight discomfort when I look for missing Hitler heads that I don't feel trying to find stamps with, say, Idi Amin or Stalin.

I get your point, ajkitt . I added the disclaimer partly as a joke and partly because in Europe we have strong laws against the apology of Nazism, which, you are right, are somewhat hypocritical if we can discuss other dictatorial and murderous regimes without such pincers. The laws are even stricter in Germany itself, so, when advertising stamps of the era, sellers there have to be careful in how they describe the items, lest they be deemed to be peddling propaganda.

As per a request by Beryllium Guy over on another thread, here are the latest additions to my collection. Bought from a Catawiki auction recently... July 20, 1938 -5th Brown Ribbon at Munich, Horsewoman - Michel 671; Scott B119 May 18, 1939 - Nürburgring auto races with overprint in black - Michel 695-697; Scott B141-143 Both are MNH. There is quite a premium on early German never hinged stamps. Hopefully the other two lots I won will be here soon!

Hey, so how do you read this date on a German Stamp? I have no idea how to read these dates. Thanks, Mike. Hey, Mike! Good to see you digging into those German issues and postmarks! I would read this one as 24th December 1922 at 10-11pm. Normally, I would expect this style to be dd.mm.yy followed by time. Time followed by "N" means PM. Other comments are welcome, of course, as I have no special expertise in this area.

Hey, Mike! Good to see you digging into those German issues and postmarks! You have no idea. LOL. I seem to go off the deep end when I start new things. I have already bought a Scott album, fairly stocked with mint & used stamps, a Lighthouse Hingeless Germany (Berlin) album 1979-1989 almost complete, a Lighthouse Hingeless Germany Album 1952-1979 with some stamps, not a lot though, a Germany Lindner Hingeless Germany Album 1948-1975 (almost complete), and also a few Old German States small collections. I find it easier to get the albums I want by buying a used album with stamps. Then I take it and rearrange things the way I want them. Saves a lot of money and I wind up with really nice albums.

And here are some stamps from the series International Transport Exhibition, Munich 1965. Note the 40 pfennig missing a perf. But for the cancel I might keep it. (I have 15 more but not with a SON cancel)

Here is the first page of the small album I received in the mail today. Regular paper (thin) both side of each filled. Not too many older issues, but quite a few I need to fill holes... At least they are all from the Empire or FRG...

OK, so here is the other Germany collection I got in, 8 full stockbooks and a box full of extras. The shipping from the Netherlands was $120, my god the cost of shipping has gone up lately. This will take a while to sort, a long while. LOL. If anyone has Germany want lists that need filled (I only know Scott Numbers), you can send them to me and I will fill them when I get time, it will be a month or so most likely. I have way more Germany than is shown. The first stockbook that is shown, is full of really nice cancellations, the entire book is just to show the mans cancellation collection I guess.
Yup, I am in need of many. I can send you one once I get a full listing... Lots of holes in my album! Love that Davo album, but just too expensive for me.

*sigh* I have been going through this little album that just arrived yesterday. I overpaid on this one. Not being there to see it in person,. one doesn't get a sense o\f the condition of the stamps within. All are hinged, on double-sided pages. Too many are stuck down on the page. So that means cutting down to size to soak. That "Stamp Lifter" that arrived in the mystery box from firstfrog2013 is coming in handy to remove stuck hinges. Some are the green-tinged that come off very easily. Most though are the white ones that are like super-glue! I have torn up a couple stamps thinking they'd come off easy, but didn't! Even though there are quite a few stamps in it that I need, they will suffice until I get better used or MNH. The condition is well... ugh! You take your chances with far-flung auctions. Maybe I should have looked at bit closer at the one page that was shown for this lot. I do believe more are on their way. Hopefully in better condition.

I have had to perform "surgery" on many double-sided pages to soak off stuck-down stamps, and I am sorry to say that I have wrecked my share of stamps in the process.... mostly from trying to cut up the pages into smaller pieces. So now I just soak the whole page if I cannot find a good, clear place to cut it up without the potential for mishaps. Edit: By the way, I thought that the stamps shown on the page image you posted looked quite nice. Lots of well-centered examples without heavy cancellations. They are better than what I have right now in my collection, that's for sure.

mikeclevenger - Wow, it seems you will have a busy 2 months ahead! Great stuff indeed, in particular the nice postmarks - congratulations!! If you do not collect postmarks yourself, I would be more than happy to help you store the less common postmarks (from smaller 'unheard off' places) in my own postmark collection Good luck in your effort with these - and more importantly - enjoy

Giving these old German stamps a bath seems to have improved them immensely. This is the first time in what... 40 some years that I have soaked stamps! Two & a half pages done. 15 or so more to go.

I have quite a few of these. But has anyone ever seen them without the "millionen" on the bottom? No words or numbers at all on the bottom... While catching up on my reading here I saw your post and thought you might like to know that your upper 5pf stamp also has a well known plate flaw. Look for the broken network line at the far left.
