I got this today, via ebay. As an old currency collector, I was immediately drawn to this. Now, I know nothing about Australian stamps, so if someone could enlighten me on what these 2 stamps represent, I would appreciate it. Theron.

Not seen it before, it's 2013 so a late emmission. Australia Post is celebrating the FIRST commonwealth Bank Note in Australia The 60c stamp represents the local post rate The $2.60 represents International Post, the vignettes represent the original design and release propaganda.
The two stamps create a puxzzle for me in 2 ways.
1. I was of the opinion that "souvenir sheets were illegal to seperate, why then the two different rates?
2. The "Russell Island" Postmark would suggest it has been handled by "KG5" an ex member of our group "The Stamp Forum"
You shall be able to get Chapter and verse on this from the Australia Post archives, search for the 2013 bulletin.

Thanks Rod. I printed that part of the bulletin that concerns the mini-sheet, it will go nice with them in my album. And, yes, I did get this from our old friend, KGV.
