This 1913 6p George V canceled on January 28, 1916 in Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire, it seemed particular to me because of the cancellation of this village that bears the name Robin Hood, and allows us to make a small trip. Photo of the village. Photo of the old (former) post office where the stamp was probably canceled in 1916. Note the old Georgian red post box.
This is the new Post Office, beautiful too, but the old one was extraordinary.

GB KGVI 1948 3 x 1d cover sent to Denmark postmarked London 13th September with unusual postmark. Has anyone else seen something similar? This seems to have been sent via boat DFDS to Denmark. Inside is a slip of paper with the address ERIC PEHRSSON Frimaeker - Menter, Krystalgade 9, Pa. 2424y. So a stamp and coin dealer. Regards Graham

The canceller looks like a crude representation of the logo of the DFDS. Shipping company which is a white Maltese Cross.

Not posted for awhile, this is a lovely postmark on a very common stamp, you probably sort through hundreds of these machins before you find such a fine strike. GB QEII 1969 4d machin with beautiful Ventnor Isle of Wight postmark. Graham

One penny halfpenny being the correct rate in 1937 , the Italian stamp has no postal significance . Probably some kind of philatelic joke! It would not normally get cancelled by the post office but unavoidable with a slogan cancel roller or machine cancel,

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

While cleaning out an album with mostly Canadian mint this rogue SG43 plate 148 showed up. Nothing that unusual but I do like the clean cancel. To save me lots of looking maybe a member will know the post office.

I believe it's London Inland Offices, (Barred/Diamond with number), Highgate I think you are on the right trail Stan @stainmessb Being number '1' I was suspecting it would probably be some where in London. I think that one of the British members will have a precise answer once they are up in the morning. I just now mounted it in my Great Britain album on a page where I have 15-20 different plate numbers. btw I am impressed with your patience in classic studies. ,

stainlessb is correct it is Highgate. You have a Duplex cancel with circular datestamp (see small part to left) and number in diamond, Upright Oval. There are other types of Duplex cancels but this is what you have.

daniel yes it is Inland Section and Highgate Office...although I suppose Inland Offices is not really too far off base Sorry Stan, I wasn't being pedantic over the name but the Inland Section (or the Inland Office Branch) at The Chief Office was quite distinct from the suburban post offices. So, the number, 1 in hdm1950 's case does not also refer to Highgate but is simply the handstamp number in a very busy office which handled mail going outside of London to the Counties and Countries of Great Britain. Highgate was a district office which would have handled mail in and around London. See here.

Just to clarify, for this era, the branch offices are indicated by numbers in circles (although there are some exceptions). If numbers are enclosed in a diamond, this always indicates the Inland Section of the Chief Office in London. See here

In all the donkey’s years I have been collecting , with 10s of thousands of GB items across my radar I have never noticed little numerals in the corners of “squared circle” cancels. just learned my “new thing of the day!” Good to know that at 80 there’s still stuff to learn.

After searching through all 32 pages in this thread, I saw nothing of the 981 postmark. Was this really mailed from Cyprus? Too bad it wasn't on a cover to know for sure!
It's a nice Scott 54 by the looks of it.

Sorry to burst your balloon Peter, brightonpete I read it as. 186 Chesterfield Peter ( brightonpete ), I think that Alex is right in this case. If you look at the "8" in the postmark, you should be able to see that one circle is a bit smaller than the other, which tells you which way to read it. I also think it is 186 rather than 981.... too bad, as I agree that Cyprus sounds more interesting!

No I disagree , definitely 6 not 8 … there is a black spot outside the “loop “ of your drawn 8 which matches a 6 . I have no doubt !

Hi Vikingeck
I think you are 95 percent correct...But i am posting a 186 stamp and comparing it with the one Brightonpete posted....I ran it through a couple of my software programs but can no make a 100 percentage ....The arrows point to 2 different angles..
I am not an expert as you, so i will agree..186 Stay safe...Robert

To me, these appear to be the same number but two different devices. Most noticeable are the distances between the horizontal bars and the numerals; and second, the shape of the 8s, the black image 8 is top heavy.

I’m with 186. Unless this is a “rare” stamp/postmark combination, I consider this an inferior example for just a postmark example.
