Had a good night on eBay the other day in terms of adding to my modest collection of the pre-confederation provinces. Here's Nova Scotia #2b the 3-pence pale blue from 1857. The few tiny cuts into the design are quite forgivable as I got this stamp for a song compared to the Unitrade listed value. [Moderator note - image link broken and unretrievable]The next was two lots that I won, handily making up PEI #7 and 8. Here's the 6-pence yellow-green and the 9-pence violet. The 9d has a little staining, but overall it looks great in my alblum!

Nice Westy. Is that a known constant variety in the top left of the 6-pence?

I'm not certain, the 2013 Unitrade only list a couple of colour and perf varieties. There is no mention of any plate varieties. Sadly, the Unitrade is currently my only resource on PEI and the other provincial issues. If anyone has any websites or knows of any books with more info on any of the provincial stamps it would be appreciated!
This copy of the 6d has a few points of interest though. There is a break in the border at both the upper left and lower left corners. More obvious is the blob of green ink in the upper left of the stamp. It's my only copy, so I have nothing to compare it to. Anyone else have a PEI #7 they can scan for comparison?

Thanks Frog! It appears from the scan your copy of the 6d has a consistent border in both the upper/lower left corners. Now we need to find a scan of another copy with the breaks in the border to see if it is a constant variety or just an EFO.

Nice Frog. Here is a block I got from a great Aunt in Prince Edward Island in 1972, my last visit to the island. My great grandmother's brother (Major Wright) was the postmaster of Central Bedeque (near Summerside) for years in the 1880's and 90's - he owned the General Store there.

Number 1,2, and three are on shopping list but as you know bit pricey.Believe my other copies ended up with Mom.she's ninety=five now but, "plays" with her stamps everyday. My sister and I keep her busy mounting w/w stuff we find. She has over one hundred notebooks each with one(or two) country in it.This beside her U.S. she started at age eight.

firstfrog, what a great story on your Mom. Those who have family members that collect are lucky. I never did, and could never get my kids interested either.

It really doesn't matter, best to give the benefit of the doubt, and time will heal. My "Ducks Stamps" catalogue I won for $1 IIRC has magically disappeared as well, first loss for some time.
