I've been lurking around here for a while but I finally thought I would POP in and say HI! I've only been collecting a while. I started when I was 13 and collected until I was about 18. Girls, U.S.A.F. Family, College, Career all got in the way. A friend that collects talked too my wife and stamp collecting came up in their conversation. My wife asked me on my 64th B.D. If she bought me "The American Heirloom Collection" Albums if I would be interested in resuming collecting. I agreed and now at 68 years young I'm back at Collecting. I collect U.S. only. Mainly Singles. Se-tenant and Souvenir sheets. I collected sheets and Plate Blocks for a while but gave that up. I collect both Mint and used but prefer Mint where I can afford them. I have my old original Minkus "The American Stamps" Album and My original Minkus Plate Block Plate Block Albums Volume II and III. I have searched EBAY for A volume I with no success but I keep looking. I pretty well stopped in my collection about the year 2,000 when most of the stamps went to Self Adhesive. The only modern stamps I have from then on are used and just what finds it's way into our home through the mail and friends. I am pretty solid Mint from 1940-1963. But from 1963-2000 are huge holes.I see quite a few Members here that have been on some of the other Forums so I don't feel alone.
Roscommon is in the Far Northern part of the lower Peninsula about one and a half hours south of the Mackinaw Bridge. Thirty Minuets south of Grayling. We Camp, Boat and fish in the summer so Stamp Collecting is a winter hobby. My Wife, Doesn't have any interest in stamps nor does my Son nor any of my Grand-kids. So I just collect to please myself. When I'm gone my Son will probably Auction off my collection and it will be gone to somebody just wanting to make a profit.
I am pretty well organized with all my stamps. I have kept Spreadsheets "Open Office" on all my stamps. Spreadsheets of "My collection" and an Inventory of everything. Also both Mint and Used duplicates and all my sheets and Plate blocks.
I'm looking forward to talking to and learning from other collectors. My fondest memories of Stamp Collecting is when my parents and I would sit at the kitchen table and we would sort through the old (200 stamps for 20 cents) looking for new to me stamps I didn't have to put into my album. I still have some of the old ads that was in the back of "Outdoor Life" and "Field and Stream" Globe Stamp Company, Kenmore, Golden Valley and others.
Anyway guess I've rambled on long enough. Howdy Ya'll. Thanks for letting into this elite group of collectors.
