Hi chrischrossScott does not mention that these stamps are also unperforated. Are the so-called "epreuve de luxe" that appear on French stamps or essai? Air post, 1961, Scott C12-14.

Congratulations daniel. These are the so-called "epreuve de luxe" characteristic of French stamps, issued in a small number (not for sale) to which only important people had access (I hope I'm not mistaken)

Congratulations daniel . These are the so-called "epreuve de luxe" characteristic of French stamps, issued in a small number (not for sale) to which only important people had access (I hope I'm not mistaken) While Scott doesn't list imperf or deluxe proofs, the French catalogs such as Dallay do. And you're right, the issuance as I understand it was 400 deluxe proofs and 1000 imperfs for a given issue. I really like those deluxe proofs, daniel, good stuff!

Thanks gstamps and chrischross I purchased a small lot of 8 of these a few months ago. I have others from Dahomey, Niger and Ivory Coast. I'm not sure what I paid but they would have been cheap. The prices on eBay seem to vary significantly. This link provides more detail. These seem to be from the third type, issued from 1956 to 1963. Good to know that they were issued to important people 😁
