I have recently taken an interest in the stamps of Germany and need some reference material so I can put them in some sort of order. Right now they are just all in there willy-nilly and lacks any sort of Nomenclature. Does anyone have an ol catalog or even a trusted websit that might assist me? Thank you.

ILS,
From roughly what period? Pre- or post-1945 (meaning Germany, West Germany, or East Germany)?

I would suggest looking for Scott 2009 catalogue on CDRom, Jeff. It is fabulous.

Tip: Just copy the *.pdf's you require to your hard disk, with a link/s on your desktop. Getting access to your stamps of preference is a mere few clicks.

Germany is a little intimidating to me to start sorting and cataloging. That's mainly why I never branched out earlier. I'll try to figure that out Rod and Thank you for your friendship and assistance it really means a lot to me. OK, enough of that now- back to Germany~ "ACHTUNG!"

Jeff, I'm wondering if I understand your question or not? I haven't got a 2009 Scott DVD but a 2008 specialized and it certainly does not come close to showing every stamp. They show every type but not every stamp. The real confusing thing are sets often re-occuring over decades, of a stamp "type". The type may remain the same but the stamps are from slightly different to completely different design. Scott will often show two of a four stamp set but it can drive you nuts figuring out what the other two look like . Often there are several stamps that fit the bill. (hope that ramble made some sense) This is where my site can be most helpful. One of the main reasons for my site is to show collectors exactly what you seem to be asking. This question makes me feel like I've failed somehow, here? You said you needed "reference material so I can put them in some sort of order" Well tell me how I can make this better for you, I know penciled in catalog numbers would be very nice, but I'm not sure how Scott would view that but I think they might feel threatened and shut me down. I also try to keep my pages clean and uncluttered, numbers penciled in all over the place would detract from it's presentation, at least to me. Adding links for various stamps, sets, whole country and continent info, historical time frames, subject matter etc etc etc etc etc Where does that all end? Anyone that is on the internet has heard of Google! A couple of key words on something you are interested in and you have way more information than you could ever have dreamed of 40 years ago. If you can't Google, my opinion is don't ask questions until you've learned how. My Germany collection is 99.2% complete thru 1986 and I have pages thru 2000 that are mostly complete. After just having looked at them, I see I have made several additions so right after I am done with this post, I will rescan the pages showing the newly added stamps. All but the newer issues post 1986 show all of the types and stamps/withstanding a couple watermarks and overprints. They are all in order by year of issue and Scott numbering system. With a Scott catalog by ones side and a networked device ready to Google it is pretty hard to have any questions unanswered. Although, I think my pages stand quite well on their own as presented . One thing that is on the list to do, is to make actual watermark images appear in there respective places and or perhaps just make up a watermark page for each country. I was going thru my philatelic books and literature the other day and found my watermark encyclopedia. It appears to have all of them but they are listed by type and not by country. I'll have to scan all of the pages and then cut and paste them into specific country folders. It will be a lot of work but should be one of the more helpful additions I could make to the site and would make clear everything you needed to know about putting Germany in order by just looking at my pages. Germany 1872-1948 Germany 1949-2000Germany B.O.B.When it comes to the non Scott items postmastergs, from what he has shown, has a World Class Collection and the knowledge to share.
