Here is a scan of an original McGreely's Express stamp/cinderella. It is one of my favorite cinderella's and I think it very collectible and it probably even has a little value. However, where does one draw the line. I could easily put my name in the margin like the "fameface" example and print it out. Would this make it collectible? My opinion is, absolutely not, and it would have no value at all except to tho most uninformed collector. Anyone can print out any stamp or wannabe stamp these days and it has become a Black mark on the hobby. I feel that any collector who is interested in perserving philatelic standards should not encourage the buying or selling of these aberrations. There is also nothing interesting about them, in the least. Regarding the second stamp, I would appreciate any information on this stamp. This is not the only one I have had, so I doubt they are worth much. It is interesting that it shows a value which is not most common with cinderellas. The design and it's execution are very well done and inline with the quality required for a government issue.

Mitch, the queen is part of a set of seven. The three low values depict the queen, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Edward and his wife, and then George and his wife, are depicted on the high values. I've looked for a well-centered example of the 6d George for quite a while (off and on...it is not dominating my waking hours).

Forg and CJD thanks for the info. I do seem to recall seeing a King George on a similar stamp. Like Frog, I would like to see others from the set if you can find the time, sometime.

Here is a note from an ebay auction that sums up all I know of them: I have a better scan at home, probably from an old Londonbus auction of years past, but this will have to do for now, for some representative look at them, straight from Google: (Small stamp world...this looks as if it may be the image from the same auction where I saved the above information.)

Here is an SCF thread that has good scans of the set, along with a link to a Topics article provided by our own CindyCan: www.stampcommunity.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25278Looks like I may have misremembered where I had originally found the above info, as it was posted by CC in 2012, long before the ebay auction. Really small stamp world...

I'll copy my piece from the SCF thread so the info will be up here. "These were originally sold on plain commemorative cards for 1/6 and the price was stated on the card. They were either stuck down or mounted. Hence MNH copies are more scarce and are worth a premium over the mounted or 'no gum' copies. Later, the price rose to 2/6 but were only available in small quantities so cards with the higher price are scarce. I have seen two cards and both were backstamped Wallace Bros, Wholesale and reatil stamp dealers,London,E.C. These may have been the distributors only and I have no idea of printer. They are of poor quality on poor quality paper with poor gum but are attractive to the eye. My feeling is that they were not the work of one of the big printers [De La rue,Harrisons etc] They sell for anything between $15-$40. If you do a search you will find a whole range of prices." This was written a while ago and since those days the value of these has remained steady. But the quality of the labels has remained poor to very poor too. The designs may have had good intentions but these were really crying out for a Waterlow or a Perkins Bacon. Sadly they got the Wallace Brothers !!!!!! And don't start me on the quality of that paper...... For anyone interested, I will be listing a part set of 5 in my next Cinderella sale !!! [Shameless Plug ! ]. Londonbus1

If the George is a well-centered example, you might want to auction them. Just sayin...

cjd and LondonBus thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye out for the complete set at the lower end of your figures. Do you know if there are many known, postally used on cover? The engraving lines as well as the printing itself are both a bit wanting but the nice design seems to distract from those somewhat. I wondered if mine was a bit washed out or perhaps faded but I see, by the examples you show, they all seem to appear that way. I had noticed that the paper looked fragile and it is something I would hesitate to soak

I haven't seen one on cover, but they must exist...?
Now, finding one paying the correct rate and by all appearances passing through the mail stream? That would be something...
The production values aren't strong, but they are interesting for what they are. And I'd still like an explanation of why the nominal values were assigned as they were...Vicki, then Eddie the 8th, then Eddie the 7th, then George? (For those not fully conversant with the lines of succession, that is queen, great grandson, son, grandson. Weird.)

Multiples of these QV 1897 Diamond Jubilee cinderellas are tough to come by. I think these are the only ones I've ever seen.

Here's a different set of 1897 QV Diamond Jubilee commemorative stamps. They were issued by stamp dealer W.S. Lincoln, of 2 Holles Street, London West.
