Hi all, I just wanted to write to introduce myself. Like many of you, I started out stamp collecting as a kid and then had a several decades long break from it while other priorities of life took over. Last year, I hit 50 and decided to return to my collection. So, I renewed my APS mambership (from 1994), joined a few online stamp discussion boards, and am diving in! Like most collectors just starting out, I collected anything and everything. Now that I'm "older and wiser" I have decided to focus on worldwide classic era (1840-1940) stamps, although I go up to 1952 for British Commonwealth in line with the Scott Classic Catalogue 1840-1940. I also sometimes to a little beyond 1940 for some countries that I have a particular interest in or just like the stamps, but don't tell anyone I have been using a 1985 edition of the "Big Blue" Scott International Part I (in two volumes) that I bought back in the 1980s. However, I have now decided to make my own albums using the worldwide classic Steiner pages and am in the process of transferring everything over to those pages. I also have a general U.S. collection, but am now mostly focused on my worldwide collection. My New Year's resolution is to pay more attention to condition when purchasing stamps and to try to learn more history and geography from my stamps. Looking forward to many stimulating discussions here! Chris

Glad you've joined us. I, too, am an 1840-1940 collector with a dirty secret (a rapidly filling Scott Vol II).

Chris, welcome from another worldwide collector. Lots of people using Steiner pages on this forum and I think there may still be a few Blue International collectors lurking. Nah, probably not.

Welcome to the forum Chris! I'm a worldwide collector too. Like you I try to stay in the "classical period", but can't resist collecting later for countries that appeal to me.

Welcome Chris! ( I think I met you before on my blog. ) Like you, I took a long break from my childhood collection, and then took it up again. I'm having as much fun as that child on the stamp illustrated here, although my age is closer to the older gentleman. There are plenty of us 1840-1940 WW types, and, yes, I would like to expand to the 1950s too if I ever have the time.

Welcome Chris, I'm sure you will like it here. Very friendly folks. When you get the time, we would like to see some scans of what you like! regards, Theron. Is there a way to upload an image directly (i.e., if I have an image saved on my computer as a .jpg, etc.) or do folks generally use Photobucket or a similar site and link to the image? Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris Chris, thanks for your question, the answer to both is Yes, however, speaking without authority, on behalf of the Webmaster, I think we prefer to try and employ Photobucket. We get a certain amount of free bandwidth before we have to pay, or we get Advertising blinkers, which are a tad annoying. The board is somewhat supported by members Donations and donation auctions, Every time you employ Photobucket, you are extending our free advert usage rate. Photobucket is clunky when you begin, but in time there is a smooth and rapid route to post images, and they come out in large "in your face" formats. If you need assistance in either just post back, hope you enjoy your stay.

I have a Photobucket account (if I can still find my password ), but have only used it once or twice. I will give it a try here sometime soon. Chris
