Should this be 6 stamps? I cannot find #1154 a 1500fr stamp for this set. I have 2 sets all without a 1500fr stamp. This is a 1993 overprinted issue. Would like to know if Scott is in error. We need a country Vid.Solved ! Oops Scott looks correct Vid, my Scott 2009 appears to have the 1500 fmg issue illustrated, but not named. I collect Madagascar, but do not have either of those sets. The first set includes Insects and Mushrooms 6 stamps, and a souvenir sheet (of 2 stamps) making a set of 7 (no 1500 fmgvalue exist) The later overprints appear to add a 1500 fmg which looks like a Chameleon (lion of the ground) this is Scott #841 opt in metallic Green (The Nossi Be Chameleon) Scott advises Opt #1154 at the bottom of Sc#841

Rod has the solution - note that Scott #1149-1153 and 1155 are all design type A329 (Scouts, insects and mushrooms from 1991). Scott #1154, the 1500fr oddball, is type A276 (fauna from 1988) so it won't have the same look as the others.

1993 Mollusks. Architectonica maxima, aka Giant Sundial, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Architectonicidae, which are known as the staircase shells or sundials.

The Madagascar "London series" is a little different from those of the other colonies. The original series was issued in 1943, instead of 1941 as for the other postal administrations. Then they had a first pair of overprints in 1944. You can see those above in this thread. Then in 1945 we get the usual 8 value overprints (YT# 290-297):

Before the "London series" was put in circulation, Madagascar used older stamps with a "France Libre" overprint, sometimes also changing the face value of the stamps along the way. Shown here in order are YT#244-251, 253-258, 261-264. I'm still missing a few.

For the airmail issues, the series showing an airplane flying over a profile of the island was re-used. Shown here (again, missing a few) are YT#PA47-51 and 53-54.

There was also a set of revenue stamps that received the "France Libre" overprint, YT#T20-25 and with value overprint T26-30. I inverted the order of the two 2Fr overprints (T26 and T30) on the slide, sorry about that.

A series issued in 1946 depicting various scenes of daily life and French generals. There was no postal tariff for the 3fr 60c stamp. This was issued to round up the price for the complete series to an even 100francs.Consequently it is a little harder to find in used condition and has a higher catalogue value.

Transport en Filanzane series. This series started in 1908 and finished in 1932 ,with many reissues, colour changes and surcharges-a total of 58 stamps. Catalogue value is not expensive but like a lot of the long series from this time period,it is challenging to find all the different issues, especially in used condition.

I don't collect Madagascar on purpose, but I do have this lovely thing. This is a souvenir sheet printed for a philatelic Exposition in Tannarive in 1962. This was my very first souvenir sheet and one of my first good French Community items. I bought it in a real stamp and coin shop in 1974. Madagascar sc C70a, 1962, mnh. Let me answer some speculation about printing presses that was voiced in earlier posts in this thread. First, notice in the lower right corner that this was printed in Paris. Up until the early 1980s almost all stamps of the French Community, even independent colonies, were printed by the French government press shop, under its various titles. Thus there was a certain uniformity of look and quality. Second, the presses used were Chambon 3-color and 6-color presses, not the Giori type press. I'm no expert, so I'll leave it to you to research as you will. But do understand that only the Chambon press could achieve this distinctive "French" look.

Thank you, rod222! What I meant is I want maxicards with Madagascar/R. Malagasy stamps. I have WWF maxicards with lemurids from R. Malagasy, and from Comoros, but those maxicards may have been entirely manufactured in Switzerland, by Groth A.G., for WWF. "Prosimion"? No, pro-Simion means "in favor of Simion" (a common Romanian name). 😉 You meant "prosimian", but that is an almost obsolete taxon. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProsimianTanzania lemur on those maxicards? No, it's a galago, not a lemur. colnect.com/en/stamps/stamp/423218-Zanzibar_Galago_Galago_zanzibaricus-WWF_Zanzibar_Galago-TanzaniaIt's a bushbaby, like Dubya was [jk].😉 "The Zanzibar bushbaby, Matundu dwarf galago, Udzungwa bushbaby, or Zanzibar galago (Paragalago zanzibaricus[3]) is a primate of the family Galagidae." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanzibar_bushbabyYes, that GDR stamp features the beloved ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta). dorincard Tanzania Lemurs on Maxicard Hipstamp TIP : search google for "Prosimions on Maxicards" The Scott #2545 1986 LEMUR  DDR germany would be my favourite Lemur Image (Dresden Zoo)

WWF maxicards with lemurs, from R. Malagasy (currently Madagascar). I have them, along with other WWF maxicards from over 100 countries/postal autonomies.
