Hello all,
As a collector of Danish area cinderellas I have had an idea for several years to create a catalogue of them. There are several in existence now, but each covers only a specific area or type of item.
One of the things I am wrestling with is the format to use. As a collector and dealer, I have an extensive research library. I have used and studied many catalogs and handbooks, in many formats and they all seem to have pros and cons. What I am aiming for is something that is easy to use for collectors and dealers alike, comprehensive enough to include as much information as is available for individual items, but concise enough that it is not too unwieldy.
I would welcome any suggestions from collectors. What do you like or dislike about different catalog format?
The scope of the catalog will probably include (but not necessarily be limited to):
Advertising (Products and Businesses)
Events/Exhibitions - Trade Shows and Business events.
Places - Citiies & Towns, regional festivals
Publicity - Charity, Fundraising, Publicity, Propaganda
Sports Clubs
Youth Organizations
Patriotic
Political
Military
Child Welfare
Religious
People
Places - Tourism
Events
Health
Labels
Baggage -
Hotels
Airlines
Shipping Lines
Rail
Product
Miscellaneous
Areas that would NOT be covered: Christmas/TB seals; Railway Stamps; Bypost (Locals); Revenues. These areas have all been comprehensively covered in the recent past.
This still leaves an estimated 50,000 different items to cover, so it is an ambitious project. Because most of this material was never officially documented, there are still "new" items appearing. I use the term "new" loosely - clearly, a stamp that is in someone's collection is not unknown. But there are new discoveries being made regularly that have previously been known only to a very small group of people.
So, please feel free to make suggestions or to initiate discussions on this thread. But only as they relate to the subject topic.
Thanks in advance,
Ray Petersen
