Could you please tell if the writing on the first stamp (54P issue) is French or English?

I had to pull out the magnifying glass, but the scale on the first stamp is labelled "English Miles", so it is an English language map. Difficult to tell from the place names alone, as Jersey towns tend to have very French-sounding names.

Thanks .... I know technically Jeresy now is not part of England (UK) just wondered if then 1595 it was English or French. From Wikipedia: 'In the Treaty of Paris (1259), the English king formally surrendered his claim to the duchy of Normandy and ducal title, and since then the islands have been internally self-governing territories of the English crown and latterly the British crown'

Issue from Algeria for their 2014 presidential election: The see-through ballot box with ballots in individual envelopes is similar to the French design, which also includes a counter at the entry slot so the number of envelopes inside the box can be matched to it.

A point to ponder… is the shape of a country without geographical references really a map?

Good point to ponder, indeed. I'll just invoke precedent on the thread... I could have posted this one in the flags thread instead, I suppose.

Some purists may argue that a word cloud shaped to look like a country's shape barely (if at all) qualifies as a map, but it meets my definition... So here an example from this recent Australian stamp commemorating one century of Rotary Club activities in the country:

Stamp from Monaco marking the AMOPA world congress held in Monte-Carlo in 2009: AMOPA stands for "Association des Membres de l'Ordres des Palmes Académiques". The "Palmes Académiques" are very prestigious honours given by the French government to outstanding educators and scientists. Many of their holders actually teach in foreign schools or French-run schools in other countries (like the ones I attended), hence the global reach of the order.
