I fell in love with the artwork on some of these Mexican stamps and traced them all back to one man, Franciso Eppens Helguera, or Eppens as he was commonly known. He was a painter, sculptor and muralist who did many public commissions, including redesigning Mexico's coat of arms in 1968, which is still in use. I was drawn to not only the social consciousness of his work but his art deco style. I only have a few, but will continue too search to grow this tiny collection. Admittedly a couple of these do not bear Eppens' signature, but stylistically they are similar so I assume they are his. Here are a couple of web sites that can tell his story better than I could. I encourage you to read, look and enjoy. And if you folks have any other examples, I'd love for you to post them right along with mine. www.malariastamps.com/mpi/malaria-stamps-club-article-mexico-eppens-biographical-sketch.aspmexicoart.org/2011/06/14/francisco-eppens-helguera-1913-1990/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francisco_Eppens_Helguera

How shall I ever forget Eppens? His design of the 25c Air had me flummoxed for years till I could work out the design, A man's chest with a hint of feathers to suggest flight, but the head ! Those designs immediately recognised as Mexico.
