Shall we add some Ryukyu charity stamps? In 1952, US TB seals were used in the islands with a Ryukyu overprint. Subsquently, Kabira Chōshin (1909-1998) became the secretary-general of the Ryukyuan Anti-Tuberculosis Association (RATBA) and initiated the production and sale of locally designed Anti-TB (kekkaku yobō) seals to raise funds for RATBA’s projects and promote Ryukyu culture and identifty. The production of Ryukyu designed seals continued until 1971. Here are the seals for 1970. I haven't sought out any of the earlier ones yet. It's just a BOLO project.  |

Stamps in Yen (B-Yen) currency remained valid till Sept.20th,1958. (120 Yen = $ 1.-)
The 25 and the 50 Cents stamps were reissued on coated,gummed paper on April 20th,1961. Print: 200.000 25 C. / 100.000 50 C. (according to Sakura 150.000 and 84.000)

Completion of the restauration of the Shurei-no-mon,issued Oct.15th,1958. Print: 1.5 Mill.
In 1971/72 a crazy speculation with this stamp took place,bringing the trade-buying prices well above US-$ 10.-. To take advantage of that bubble,a counterfied reprint was produced,with an inscription on the back. Soonly the bubble burst and since then the price is back to the normal for mass-produced modern Ryukyu stamps.
