In 1949, Indo-China was divided into Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam with each issuing its own stamps.

The stamps of Labuan were replaced by those of Straits Settlements in 1906.

Stamps of the Federated Malay States, which consisted of the sultanates of Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak and Selangor, replaced those individual states and were used until 1935, when individual issues resumed

The Federation of Malaysia was formed in 1963 by a merger of the former Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, and North Borneo (renamed Sabah). Singapore withdrew in 1965. By 1965, the system of individual state issues had been extended to all states comprising the Federation.
