And another historical analysis - this time I was trying to work out the links between all the areas in Malaysia and Singapore. Hope you find it useful! (edited: added Siam/Thailand, and moved around some of the federated states to more accurately show the order in which certain entities cam into being. Worth noting that the dates show that some early entities actually continued to exist even though the name of the overriding country changed around it)

Quite good though a couple nitpicks
I would put Perak, Selangor, Pahang and Negri Sembilan both before and after Federated Malay States to make crystal clear they fused together first, then were later again broken apart
Before Kedah, kelantan and Trengganu I would put Thailand, which ruled them until 1909, and where Thai stamps were used (Gibbons provides Used Abroad listings for Thai stamps used in the 3 states before the 1909 treaty, so there is a philatelic legacy)

I've always wondered about the names and sovereignties among those states. Well done... Rob

cjoprey, that chart is absolutely the clearest visualization of the geographic/political history of Malaysia that I've ever seen - or could imagine. It still makes my head hurt, but that's not your fault, it's the British Empire's fault.

Now, French West Africa and surrounds would be another challenge.
