What I collect: US Federal Duck Stamps

Hello everybody,
I go by Reena, I live in Paradise, aka Florida. Been stampin' for a couple years now. Acquired my dear sister's collection and was rather jumping into a subject I had no knowledge except you lick 'em and stick 'em. Had a healthy respect for these little colored pieces of paper, but now I really have a great respect for them! I was always taught to admire stamps from afar. Mom taught Sister all about them and my Dad taught me about money. Only pennies and nickels, he did the half dollars and dollars.
I do have a completed collection of Duck Stamps, the majority being Mint's. It will probably take me a couple few years to make the whole collection Mint's.
I have also done an album of Baseball for my Great-Nephew and will be starting an Animal album for my Great-Niece aka God Daughter. My other Great-Niece received a huge album of World Wide Birds from Nana (my sister) before she went far far away. So I might be on a Safari to fill the album.
Thanks for listening and hope to chime in every now and again.
Reena
PS, Thanks goes out to Philatarium for bringing me to this site.... smiles and hugs

Welcome, Reena! It's great to see you here!
This is a very nice group of people, and I hope you'll feel comfortable immediately!
To others: There was a small group of us that were pretty tight at an old stamp discussion board, and I know Reena and her late sister from there. TSF is the first board that I felt was friendly enough that I felt like I could invite her here.
Reena, feel free to jump in anywhere and either ask, or share, or both!

That's the real Reena. My hand, her face at 3 weeks. She's my fishin' buddy now. Went down to the pond this afternoon and we have a pair of Egyptian Geese visiting. Very exciting they picked my neighborhood.

Thank you Zuzu. She's going to be 3 years old in a few months and is still a puppy through and through.
I'm looking forward to having a bunch of fun here. Learning the site and looking all over. Very nice site, too.

The Forum offers a great many ways to increase your enjoyment of this hobby. If you don't find threads that interest you, we'll help you start some that do. There is already a "Hunting Permit (Duck) Stamps" thread that you might take a look at.

Greetings, Reena. I know you'll enjoy this forum. I love the puppy. It is great that you are getting the grand nephew and grand niece involved! I remember when my nephew called me to tell me that his daughter had been born and that I was a "Great Uncle". I reminded him that I had always been a great uncle!

The kids now a days are not really interested in stamp collecting. They have hobby likes and I've built around that. I'm hoping someday they will have a spark and follow in Nana's footsteps and maybe develop a liking to stamps. At their age, now would be good but I just don't see it happening. And I've been developing these two albums for over two years! Ryan's was easy for Baseball and Star Wars. But Paige's was much harder. She has a liking for animals and I finally located an album that will fit the needs.

Welcome reena.Great you have a little buddy to share fishing with. Thanks from all of us for helping new future collectors.I agree stamps don't hold interest for the young, electronic toys are too plentiful in comparison to dumb paper that just sits there. My girls are just now trying to figure out what dad does with these little treasures and they are now thirty-ish.Can't wait to see the ducks.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome. I do hope it takes a while before I accidentally step on someone's toes! I do that, I don't mean to, honest.

I've seen what happens when one steps on others' toes on other forums. But the response here will most likely be a poke in the ribs and a good laugh. Dave knows what I mean by that !! Welcome to another side.... Londonbus1

I, for one, probably wouldn't even realize it if my toes were stepped on.

Welcome to The Stamp Forum reena!
What a nice idea to build albums for your great-nephew and niece around their interests. Once completed do you give them the album or continue to build it with them when they visit? I have a great niece and nephew too (and another on the way), but they are too young to have any interests yet other than causing chaos. But when they get older it would be fun to put albums together for them.

Hi Jen, The kids live across the state from me so we can't get together. And they have extremely active lives. Very lucky to have parents that have the time to do what they do. What I'll be doing with the albums is giving them to the kids the next time I see them. I would like to see them go through the books at least once in their lives! ha ha ha.....

Mike and Mike.....there's a TV show? Radio show with Mike and Mike?
Anyway, I'm glad you two are over here and yes, I'm Dianne's sister, still plugging along with stamps.
I will post the Baseball here, but really it's not a big deal. I bought the book from USPS which came with a few mint stamps that I mounted over the picture and added the sheet of current baseball. This is for a 9 year old which wanted something from his Nana as his sister got the big album of birds. Now for the animal album I'm waiting to see if I win that album so I can just about do the same thing. Making sure all stamps are mint.
