Hi Everyone! Former US collector...now collecting all things Turkish..I'm American but living in Istanbul...hope to meet you & see some familiar faces as well!! Welcome aboard, Now then, Turkey, can you assist with ID of revenues at all Ideally I would like info on revenues in each set, so I can make album pages, but I know this an abstruse discipline.

mdroth, welcome! I love the ornate Ottoman and Turkish stamps.
I'm sorry, but I really cannot help it - whenever I see/hear the word "Istanbul" this song immediately pops into my head:

Welcome. I just acquired a batch of early Turkish stamps. At the time, some very expensive overprints were also available, but I didn't know enough about them to take the venture.

mdroth, welcome! I love the ornate Ottoman and Turkish stamps. I'm sorry, but I really cannot help it - whenever I see/hear the word "Istanbul" this song immediately pops into my head: ha ha - Same thing here, if I'm in the company of my girlfriend, whenever Istanbul is mentioned I reflexively start in with "IstanBUL not ConstanTINOPLE" ... And I link Istanbul with the Pudding Shop. As a younger collector, I once received a postcard cutout in a random stamp mix, Turkish stamps on the front, photo portion clearly showing the words "Pudding Shop" on the back. I was utterly baffled by this so I kept the cutout intact, a difficult task considering I'm a fervent soaker. I came across the cutout again in recent years, and with the help of the internet I was able to clarify exactly what the Pudding Shop was. Ryan

Welcome to the Forum. One thing I would be curious about is whether you have found interesting things to do, philatelically speaking, in Istanbul?

Welcome, Mike! Great to see you here! This really is a nice bunch of folks, with all types and levels of interests, from almost-newbie to advanced.
To others: Mike, along with Reena, is another person I've known for years from some other discussion boards. Both are terrific people!
Welcome!

Ryan Same here -- that song runs through my head every time. Earbug, big time. (Now also, that zipcode song, from another thread.) As for the Pudding Shop, once I read your link, I realized that I had seen it portrayed on tv. I believe it was in an Anthony Bourdain episode, but I'm afraid I don't have the time at the moment to try to track down the clip. -- Dave

Hi Everyone...thanks for the warm welcome!
In no particular order, to answer some of the questions from above:
No, I've never found anything interesting philatelically here in Istanbul, in 18 years. Can't say I've looked hard though. Went to one show in '96, but nothing since.
Transplant story actually very boring. My wife is Turkish!
Happy to help anyone with any Ottoman/Turkish issues. Tough/fun area, that I've concentrated on almost exclusively for several years now.
And as to the revenues: now that's an interesting question. It is the one area I've not gotten into alot, as yet - but was already on the top of my list. I've got a nice hoard, and can id them in a very amateur/general sense; planning to get a revenue catalog & will get into it in a big way, hopefully. Will be happy to help/share as it happens...
