I know some of you die-hard Canadian collectors are going to say...'Oh no not Bluenose again!'; but I must tell you that Bluenose is probably my favourite stamp and I propose to put together a mini-exhibition (virtual). For this reason I would ask that you post any information you might have on this great stamp and boat. Thanks For those new to Stamps ( even non-Canadian collectors would know Bluenose) here is the stamp I am referring to:

The Canadian Postal Archives has a bit of background information on the stamp and a few tidbits about the ship. If you haven't found it already have a look here; Canadian Postal Archive: Bluenose

Thank you very much, therealwesty! I have been trying for ages to confirm who actually engraved that beautiful stamp. That information will be invaluable to me in my little project.

Apart from that...what a great site! Has information on just about every stamp issued by Canada! I don't think that I can 'like' your post more than once...in spirit I do.

I discovered the postal archive when I first started collecting, before I had acquired my first Unitrade catalogue. I used the archive and borrowed some of the images to print out my own catalogue/checklist of the Canadian classics (up to 1952). Though it doesn't really contain any information on varieties, it was invaluable in getting my collection started in the early days. I still reference the archive quite a bit to get background information. Where the archive does outshine the catalogues is providing those tidbits of historical insight about the stamps and sometimes the stamp's subjects.
Just a shame the Canadian Postal Archive has now been archived by the Library and Archives of Canada, so there will be no further updates to the site.

One tidbit that is hinted at in the archive link, but not specifically stated, is that the Bluenose is racing against herself. The artist just used a different number on the sail of the following boat, but the composite is made up of two images of the Bluenose.

Yes, I have found a reference that has the two pictures of Bluenose actually used in engraving the stamp. Thanks

Picked it up for an insanely low starting price at our silent club auction last month. No one else bid on it.

I've come to realize that I really, really love a good sock-on-the-nose cancel, and that one is a perfect example.

Post as many bluenose pics as you want -- I love seeing them. I just wish I had one of my own :-) Kirks, if you go to the link Posted by therealwesty 28 Jul 2013 above and then click on these 3 buttons: There are many pics of the Bluenose essays and sheets and even the collage of the two photos used for the engraving. I would post them on here but I am not sure of the copyright situation.

Here is a nice used margin plate #2 block of 4 that is too fragile to soak off the original parcel paper.

Now to complete the various Bluenose varieties, here are some ones perforated, both OHMS and Private usage. Scott OA158 - 5-hole OHMS, Perfin ID=O7-1-158. Scott 158 - Perfin B14-1 "BT", Bell Telephone Company of Canada Scott 158 - Perfin C61-3 "CW/C", Canadian Westinghouse Co. Ltd. Scott 158 - Perfin S18-7 "SUN/LIFE", Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada There are a few more Private Perfins of the Bluenose, so if anyone has one then I would like to see a scan. Some that I know of, but have not yet seen are: - "C/GE", Canadian General Electric Co. - "CMS", Consolidated Mining & Smelting Company of Canada Ltd. - "CNR", Canadian National Railway, Montreal, PQ. - "CXL", Canadian Explosives Ltd. - "GWL", Great-West Life Assurance Co., Winnipeg, MB.

Wow, those are great, stamporator! Such a gorgeous stamp. ...and I can't resist posting this from urban dictionary: I would have posted a Brian Regan YouTube link, but my sound isn't working tonight.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Seeing as this year is the 100th Anniversary of the launching of the Bluenose it seems appropriate to reactivate this thread. The actual launch date was March 26, 1921. The .50 Bluenose issued in 1929 has always been my favourite stamp from anywhere and I love this unhinged pair with salvage edge from my dad’s collection that is now part of mine. Bluenose II was launched on July 24, 1963 and continues to serve as an ambassador for Nova Scotia. I did not get to see her while home this past week but one of my sisters caught this photo of her sailing past Terrence Bay close to Peggy’s Cove a few days ago.
