Of the hundreds of first flight covers I have, the vast majority are pretty much the routine FFC - with cachet, and date cancellation on the front, and a receiving postmark on the reverse. Several from AM-94 to Buffalo have proven interesting. I am still researching it, but have yet to get any leads.
The example FFC shown is for segment 94W6, Rochester to Buffalo, but I also have examples from New York City to Buffalo. What is interesting on these covers is that on the reverse you don't find the normal city/town postmark, but what appears to be an R.P.O. (railroad post office) postmark.
The RPO postmark is time/dated 3:30 pm on Sep 19, 1948, with "Buffalo, N.Y. Air Mail Field R.P.O." and "Tour 3". This leads me to believe that there was a designated R.P.O. to transfer mail to/from the airport. I cannot find my RPO list and have not located any information as to such an RPO. An information would be appreciated!

Well, I did not realize that the cover I selected had the least clear RPO cancellation - this one looks like the date is Sep 10, but it is definitely Sep 19 (you can see the bottom part of the "9". I can scan a better image if someone wants a clearer image.
