While I applaud Linn's finally making the issues available in pdf, I am disappointed that they removed (hopefully temporarily) the archived issues. Those issues ran back several years and also included other publications.
I assume they are slowly going to convert the older issues. But I don't understand why they didn't simply keep the older issues/software available until they finish converting the older issues -- or maybe they don't plan on converting the older issues?

I don't know. I would hope the older issues show up. In the old system you had unrestricted access. I could get into Coin World. I no longer have that access, nor do I care, since I don't collect coins.

Looks like back issues only go back a year

So far they have back issues to Feb 2014, and then exactly one issue from Oct 2013. Not sure why that particular Oct issue is up there and not any others from 2013 or before. With the old software (which we had a lot to complain about), I think we could go back as far as 2010.

Ok, everyone. I sent an email praising Amos' decision to update their software. I got a Thank You email and a note that my email has been forwarded to "upper management."
If you like the changes to Linns.com, please take the time to send a complimentary email to Amos.

With the old software (which we had a lot to complain about), I think we could go back as far as 2010. I shot them an email asking if back issues will be converted over. Since all the February issues were in the old Mattercast software, I assume getting the old issues up is just a matter of loading it in some provided software and hitting a submit button. We'll see what they write back. I don't think the old software was their fault. They bought into Mattercast and the company went belly up on them. I'm sure a lot of people got screwed. At the time they started using it, it may have been best or breed.

Linn's just sent me an email that there are no plans to move the back issues over to the new Olive software.
I replied that they have February through now, and 2 issues from October 2013. They should at least post all of 2014.

Thanks for the update, Andy.
That's disappointing. Maybe I missed the announcement, but was this done without warning or advance notice?
Now I've got a whole bunch of currently useless page indexes for things I had looked up and I no longer have access to that info. If I had known this, I would have kept my print subscription.

To be honest, the old method of printing to PDFs was so annoying, I'd only check in with Linn's once a month, so I only found out about the new software from someone on another forum. I know the old software was there through February, since I have PDFs from February and January.
If there are specific issues you need from the last 3-4 years, I may have PDFs. PM me.

Thanks for the offer Andy, but too much trouble for you. I don't know when I might need specific page/issue, so I'll just have to do internet research instead. Most of my notes had to do with new issue listings. Yeah, the old methods of printing to PDF was so annoying that I never did it. Oh, well.
Thanks again for replying.

I guess getting the old stuff over was more work than I thought. It would be nice if they could leave the old site up for subscribers as www.linns-archive.com or some such thing. It may not be worth it financially to maintain an old server infrastructure. Well, the new Olive software will keep me a subscriber!

As much as this seems to be a good idea, I stopped reading Linn's years ago, back in the days when they came out weekly on newsprint, because there just wasn't any news in them that I couldn't get online for free. I'd love to have a stamp weekly or monthly that's filled with really good information but at the moment, there simply isn't. Like all magazines, I think going digital is probably the way of the future.

I happened to come across this old thread while searching through TSF for some of the posts by Andy Pastuszak about his Stamp Hacks site. Linn's has recently updated their archived issues page and you can now look at issues from 2008 to 2013, all of which can be downloaded as .PDF files. The list of issues isn't 100% complete but there's quite a lot there. Everybody can see these issues - you need to be a Linn's subscriber to get access to all the issues from 2014 forward. The issues have some interesting features. Possibly the most useful is the new stamp issues. I appreciate they have bills to pay but over 50% of the publication is advertising - the stamp forums have better content and only one has advertising.

Possibly the most useful is the new stamp issues. That's the reason I subscribe to Linn's - I have a long-term project in which I collate all of the new issues into individual country files, thus I keep my Scott catalogues continuously updated (more or less - any number changes are not posted in Linn's, and of course price changes aren't either). But as a long-term project, I'm behind schedule with it, as I am with virtually every long-term project I have on the go. Lots of those, unfortunately ... Ryan
