This past weekend I got outbid on a lot that I wanted more than any lot I had seen in the last couple years. It was from Argentina and would have done wonders for my first page. After the loss I went looking for something else to help relieve my disappointment. I came across a U.S fancy cancel lot in which a couple stamps really caught my eye. The first was the 1 cent Franklin below with the Green cancel (which is a $250 premium on top of the stamps value) also with a double perf error at right. Can't tell if it has a grill or just a #63 but a nice item in any case and possibly unique. The next stamp is the one that really made me stand to attention. No doubt an authentic stamp and I doubt there is any chance a chemical reaction could change Red to Black so what it is? Only one thing that comes to my mind and I'm wondering what others with good knowledge of early U.S stamps thinks it is.

Red can turn to black in certain circumstances, depends on pigments, best I can do, not knowledgeable on US stamps.

Love the #63. I thought the #63 was considered an essay an didn't have the balls and ornaments on the corners and that one seems to show them.

Same here! At certain times of the year I do have to behave somewhat conventionally and that always causes me grief - I should be at work in about 6 hours and I haven't bothered to go to bed yet. So, I'm betting I won't be at work in 6 hours ....
