I design my own pages using an open source desktop publishing solution called Scribus (http://www.scribus.net). I post everything online, for free, as both PDFs and the original Scribus files, so you can edit them to your heart's content. I just released the 2013 supplement to my Ukrainian stamp album. If you want to take a look at Scribus and tinker with my pages, please head over to www.stamphacks.com (My site is completely free. No banner ads)

O.K. My tip of the day.I love yard/garage sales and I've found I can find decent lightly used three-ring binders CHEAP!! I've been buying a lot of them for Mom but recently realized how handy they are for all my various sub-collections.Look for d-ring style they are much easier to use.Excellent time of year to look as school has vacation and the Mom's clean out the papers.Last week I found four 1 1/2 inch binders that cost me $1 for the bunch. The little pockets in the front hold want lists and other reference notes. The only thing better would be free.

Yes, very good tip Froggie, I use them for my duplicates folders. I prefer 4 ring binders if I can get them, 3 ring elongate the page holes, but 3 ring are fine for organisation.

We don't have 4 ring binders in the US. I did find one supplier of 4 ring white A4 binders in Texas. I was tempted to get some, but I don't have a A4 size 4 hole punch, or any A4 paper. I sill may get some, since I prefer the size of an A4 sheet to a US Letter sheet.

The US lead the way in most things, but on others, they do very strange things, like maintaining inches and miles.
A4 and 4 hole are a great combination, however if your country doesn't use them, you will taking on a big challenge. I am surprised you have gone to Stanley Gibbons for your Ireland.
I would have stayed with Scott, and just added private individual pages that Gibbons list.

rod222 do you use A4 and 4-ring binders for Steiner Pages? I was wondering if they can be printed to fill a A4 page.

Yes Admin, Always used A4 paper, 100 year buffered, slips into plastic page protector, that has holes to suit 3 hole, 4 hole, or 10 hole binder. (binder $4.70 each) Plastic page protectors unknown for safety. Steiner has some issues at A4, oftentimes the Miniature sheet borders are too small. The 4 ring binder handles weight well, my Vietnam and Bulgaria collections are in excess of 8Kg and the pages roll over effortlessly, I can get about 40 years in 1 binder.

I would have stayed with Scott, and just added private individual pages that Gibbons list. I was making pages for 1998 Ireland and when I got to the bird definitives, I was completely confused with how Scott had it listed. I then downloaded the Steiner Ireland pages and tried to use what he had. Got fed up and decided to just buy SG Ireland. Their catalog made perfect sense. Steiner's pages were missing quite a number of major catalog numbers (at least according to SG), and Scott never mentioned the booklet se-tenant pairs were vertical and not horizontal. Plus, if you go on eBay, almost all Ireland listings use SG numbers. Having bought the Scott stamp pages for Ukraine and Ireland, and a Scott US Specialized Catalog, I can't say I am very fond of the Scott Catalog.

I would like to try and convert a Steiner page to A4, just as an experiment. If you can give me a PDF to try, I'll go get it and try and convert it. Then I can post instructions for the common man to use.

I have printed 1000's of Steiner pages on A4. The only problem is that the page is not 'centered'. To get it centered, I have to scale, i.e. the boxes becomes too small. I'm guessing this can be fixed if you loaded the PDF into InDesign or similar, but I haven't tried that.

Andy, can you not use the Steiner pages of Ireland you downloaded?
You make a good argument, I recall Tony from SCF explaining the bonus of using Gibbons for Commonwealth countries, he kept an inventory of price movements for India. That all makes sense, but for a WW collector, as myself, I see the benefit of following one Catalogue for consistent page layouts and add pages of my own for discrepancies.

But I wanted to do somethings others found useful, and would be able to test stamps against.

overall looks good. Are large spaces at bottom of each page intentional or maybe you can "eat' up some in the middles.

Looks exactly like the pre-print image, Andy. Top and bottom borders are fine, (17mm apiece) left hand margin 27mm, right hand margin 17mm. That doesn't bother me, depend what you were after.
Cannot comment on boxed frames, I do not have the stamps to test. I would need a copy of a miniature sheet frame page, of a sheet I have, or your instructions how to hack, to report results. Over to you.
Of course, boxed frames are only pertinent if hinging the stamp to the page, If one is using mounts, like Classical stamps, box sizes are of no interest.

OK, I have 20 or so Czech minature sheets to mount, 1988 Currently Steiner is approx 4mm short in width, and 7mm short in length (The Fountains) The pages (23 and 15 ) have borders top and bottom of 30mm, LHS=26mm RHS= 16mm I can email you the *.pdf for you to try. Do I have you email addy?

The A4 page is longer than a US letter page. The three things I was going for were: 1. Preserve margins. 2. Make sure that the stamps are centered inside the border 3. Make sure that the stamps box sizes are preserved Some rearranging could be done, since the page is longer to shorten the whole thing. Let me tinker and see what I can do.
