A friend on another board posed what I thought was an intriguing question: OK, I know both the A.P.S. and A.F.D.C.S. accept stamp donations but what other charitable organizations accept them? I know (just learned) that some are very choosy/picky about what types and what format {eg: organized collections, albums and lots} that they will accept so I am asking around for thoughts and suggestions on the matter. Any thoughts on this subject would be most appreciated! Thank you. -Jeff

Perhaps support your local TSF members? donate your duplicates to a "swap" arrangement, I have just tried a tester here today. Some beginner members perhaps would like some of the more regular stuff we donate. If I don't get any bites then I'll donate.

Stamps for the Wounded accepts stamps and supplies for service members. From the link: "Doing whatever we can to stamp CANCELLED across the face of the deadliest foe the hospitalized service personnel must fight - ENFORCED IDLENESS and its deadly allies: boredom, loneliness, frustration, futility, and despair." The FRCS Holocaust Stamp Project accepts all stamps, even damaged ones. The stamps are counted, toward the goal of 11 million representing "6 million Jews and 5 million other victims perished during the Holocaust." From the link: "Each stamp that is collected symbolizes one wasted life, 'thrown away' as having no value, much the same way as an envelope bearing a cancelled stamp postage stamp is tossed in the trash." Edited to add the "obvious" local organizations that may accept donations: Boy Scouts and/or Girl Scouts - check with local councils' offices; veterans' clubs, homes, or hospitals; Boys and Girls Clubs or other after-school programs

Since you're located in the States, this probably won't be of as much interest to you this time, but as others look at this thread in the near (& far) future, it could be useful to archive this. Oxfam Canada and Oxfam UK both accept stamp donations. I don't know about the UK service, there isn't too much information online, but the Canadian charity holds auctions to sell the better stamps and sells bulk kiloware mixtures for the common stuff. Rod I must clarify a bit here, Revenuecollector on S.C.F. asked this question and it seems that most everyone is drawing a blank so, I thought I would just bring up the topic here to try to garner more results/options. I only wish I had so many that I could donate.

My local stamp club accepts donations but there is a bit of a problem. The IRS has rules that have to be followed and, as I remember, the club has to submit paperwork to the IRS AND hold onto the stamps for 3 years before selling them or passing them along, particularly if someone claims them as a donation on their income tax return. The club needs to find storage space for all the stamps. For the really cheap stamps, we used to donate them to the stamps for kids program but they are no longer active nor taking donations. So we now do two things with them. 1. We hold an annual auction for members and 2. We put out the remainders at a "10 cents a stamp table" at our annual show. At the last show, the table returned over $300 to the club.
