The SG5a (Sc 4a) tete-beche pair in chestnut, times 3. (I bought it as a block of eight, but the top pair was hanging on to the rest by half a perf. It made it out of the envelope intact, but didn't make it into the Vario intact. So now I have my second block of six, and another pair.) Not a rare cracked-plate variety...that's only the mylar pocket. Sorry for that.

I was curious to see what a "Booklet Pane" format was like, and, if any stamps had your EFO "white mark" on the cheek (Top Right Stamp) One fellow had 3 Panes for sale at $361, and something I had not seen on ebay before....Time payment He was offering no interest, and six only, monthly payments.

A quick note on the stamp exhibition overprints. SADIPU stands for Suid-Afrikaanse Drie-eeufees Posseel Uitstalling and is the Afrikaans equivalent of SATISE. (Thank goodness for Google. My Afrikaans is really rusty and I couldn't remember what the heck Tercentenary would be.)
The handsome lady on 1d stamp is Maria van Riebeeck, wife of the Jan van Riebeeck that is on the 4 1/2d stamp. Jan was an employee of the Dutch East India Company, or Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (VOC). In 1952 he established a fort at the Cape of Good Hope to act as a waystation at which ships heading to the East Indies to pick up spices and whatnot could stop and get supplies of meat and vegetables. This fort gradually grew into a settlement, and the settlement grew into the city of Cape Town, where I was born many years later.

bigblue1840-1940.blogspot.com/2015/12/union-of-south-africa-part-i.htmlI don't usually give a special alert about my blog posts- But the South Africa one just published might be of more interest than usual. The main course of this blog post (and the next one): the English-Afrikaans Se-Tenant pair issues of 1926-1954 (Scott 23-67). I consider the presentation to be at the introductory- intermediate level. By no means is it exhaustive, or at the level of the specialist. The presentation also is based on the Scott catalogue- therefore a bit simplified- but I will provide some additional reference to the Stanley Gibbons. I will cover the 1/2p, 1p, and 6p denominations for this Part I post. They were initially issued in 1926 as typographed; later issues were photogravure (rotogravure). The remaining Se-Tenant 1927-1954 issues, either engraved or using photogravure, will be covered in the Part II post at a later date

can anyone provide me with a link to cross reference Scott and Gibbons, mostly for South Africa. There are so many different varieties of early 1900-1940 South Africa stamps. Any help would be appreciated

In honor of the USA elections today, let's show this set of South African stamps, originally issued as a se-tenant booklet, to mark the occasion of their first multi-racial elections: We hope the lines our US members faced were not as long as featured here!

1936 JIPEX Minisheets I noticed jimjung added some already but I thought I would add mine as well as some of the advertisements are different. (Please see earlier post for images) I believe there are 10 different settings of the adverts on the halfpenny sheet and 21 setting of the penny ! . Most of the ads are sponsors of the show by the Post Office, Telegraph or Savings bank, in English or in Afrikaans but there is always a different Tobacco Advert top left on the penny . This one for MELACHRINO cigarettes I have not seen before

the attached picture is for the first ha'penny value issued under the change to Union of South Africa - so hope I'm in the right place with this one. Not at all exciting really, but finding it surprised me - this is the right hand stamp which is one of the four coil issues from September 1913, in addition to which were the 1d., 1.1/2d. and 2d. values - listed as SG 18 to 21. I have half a dozen or so of the very common perf. issue, and judging by the price differential it looks like the frequency of the coil stamp is three to four times less common - or should that be rarer. Expect everyone will now tell me they have hordes of them.
