One of my favorite covers with a Peterborough postmark is this one addressed to Sandford Fleming Esq. The cover bears a Peterboro C.W. type B2 broken circle with an AP 30 1856 date. The cover is back stamped the very same day with a Cobourg U.C. type B2S broken circle and a curious Toronto C.W. CDS dated May 1 and no year. The hand stamped 3-pence rate is in black ink, denoting this cover was sent postage due. The 3-pence rate pays for domestic delivery (within the Province of Canada) for letters up to 1/2oz.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

For those who don't know, Sir Sandford Fleming was the designer of the first Canadian stamp, the three penny beaver (therealwesty's avatar shows the later decimal currency issue that had the same design). He also accomplished a bunch of other stuff - the stamp design was kind of a minor chapter in his life. When the CBC had their "Greatest Canadian" TV show, I voted for Sir Sandford Fleming. ha ha en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandford_FlemingRyan
